Hello, Volut cracked overnight and leaked for several hours, drainig the pool down well over 1 foot. Next day, replaced volute, but now polaris is not functioning. Water is being pumped into the polaris, but it does not at near enough volume. I pulled the hose out of th polaris and seems like water pressure should be much higher. The wheels will not even spin on the polaris, but i believe the polaris is fine. My guess is the motor is weakened (not rotating at full rpm's), or a part was damaged while running with no water flowing through it when it ran throughout the night. Any ideas. I appreciate any assistance.

With a new volute the most likely causes for low pump flow is a restricted return line, a restricted suction line(or air leak), or there is something wrong with the impeller in that order. There is a filter screen in the return line that can cause the return line to be restricted if it is plugged. It is either in the wall fitting or in the tubing system close to the wall fitting. If it is dirty it means that debris is getting into the system. Typically an early indication that a grid in a DE filter has a leak in it is a plugged cleaner filter screen. The speed of the motor could be causing the problem but this is rare without causing an over current condition in the motor causing it to shut off. My suggestion is first check the return filter screen. If it is dirty then clean it out. Before connecting the return hose start the pump and check the flow by reaching down and manually putting your hand over the water stream coming out of the wall fitting. Turn off the pump and connect the cleaner hose without the filter screen installed. Disconnect the hose from the cleaner and hold the end of the hose while someone turns on the pump. Water should come out of the hose at a high rate. Next install the filter screen and the flow coming out of the hose should be about the same. Now try connecting it to the cleaner. I hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks, good advice. Turns out the screen was pretty dirty and had a small hole in it, which allowed two of the four jets to be clogged as well."

I have a leak from the bottom of the pump

Also, check for the actual mechanical shaft seal, they leak, and appears as if it's coming off of the wet end. Making it look like the drain plug could be leaking, or the area between the volute which is the pump housing, and the cover, this would normally be a failed gasket or O-ring, depending on the brand. Sometimes just tightening the cover to the pump housing correct this issue.

There is a leak from the front on the pump. A steady drip but the cleaner is still moving and working properly. The front is held on by a number of 1/2 or 3/8 inch nuts. The drip is from the other end...

I recently had this happen to a fairly new pb-4 that ran dry and overheated for about an hour before I noticed it. I disassembled the volute and impeller on the front of the shaft to look at the condition of the impeller and shaft seal. There are several youtube videos that detail the shaft seal replacement. I ended up having to replace the impeller as well as the shaft seal due to the impeller being deformed. Cost me about $35 for both the impeller and seal.

I have a Polaris LR51044 pump that is not working. When I turn it on it "hums" but won't pump water. I live in Baton Rouge, La. and we have had freezing or below freezing weather for the last 2 days. The...

Usually when a polaris booster pump hums it means 1 of 2 things; either the starting capacitor needs to be replaced (its located under the black hump on top of the motor) or the pump is bad. Most likely the starting capacitor needs to be replaces. This is where you should start since the capcitor is only $20-$30. Get a new capacitor from a local pool store, shut the power off to the motor, remove two screws on each side of black hump on top of motor, remove two wires from starting capacitor and install wires on new capacitor, replace cover and turn the pump on. If that doesn't work you will need to replace the motor.

You need to lock the other end of the motor shaft and then spin off the impeller. If you would like a quote on the replacement seal, contact us at www.arrowpools.net
