Harley has changed the location of the oil drain on Sportsters so many times it's hard to keep up with. Look on the left hand side down low on the frame behind the primary. The hose simply plugs onto a stub on the frame.

Good Luck

How can i tell if i have a sportster hugger or just a sportster 883?

The difference between the 883 and the hugger were very small. the hugger came stock with buck horn handlebars and a shorter suspension. the differences are still noticeable today between a standard 883 and and 883 low.
1992:
  • Hugger model made even lower
  • Standardized hand controls
  • Production Information:
  • XLH 883 $4,499
  • XLH 883 'Hugger' $5,075
  • XLH 883 'Sportster Deluxe' $5,559
  • XLH 1,200 $6,400
also check your vin number if you have and 883 it should read 1hd4cam........ or for a hugger 1hd4cem....

How do u change oil on a 1993 883 sportster? what weight oil ?

Look on the left side of the bike just below the battery. You'll see a hose that either has a plug in it or one that is plugged onto the frame. Take this hose lose and the oil will drain. Refill with three quarts of 20W50 oil that meets H-D specs.

How do i change my engune oil

Warm up the bike first. On Evolution Sportster's, be sure to change the filter the same time you change oil. The oil may be drained from the tank, by locating a blanked-off hose behind the transmission case, near the frame. Remove the plug and drain into a proper container. One problem with Sportster's (and other HD engines) is that some old oil is always left in the system. You can eject some of this by taking off the plug wires and cranking the engine to expel old oil back into the tank, and hence to drain line. Don't crank the engine more than 30 sec. to avoid damage. Never run engine W/O oil in the system. Recycle old motor oil !!

How do you drain the engine oil on a 2001 883 sportster? Can not find drain plug.

look on the left side of the bike back underneath the battery. You'll find a large diameter hose back there with either a plug in it or the hose connects to the frame. It will have one of those spring type hose clamps on it. Take this hose off and drain the oil out of the tank.

Little tip -The only time the oil cooler will cool is when the bike is moving and when the bike is moving you don't need the oil cooler. This is from a factory harley tech.
