Re: I have no spark i think it might be my cdi starter...
Hi,
Check if any spark comes out from the spark plug.
Try to remove the airfilter and choke the carburetor when your starting the engine.
Hope that helps you!
Pull out the spark plug wire from the terminal, use a screw driver and look for a spark when you start it via body ground. If there are still no sparks, CDi is at fault. Pull out the CDi and clean the terminals, mostly problems occur on the terminals acid and dirt accumulation.Pull out the spark plug wire from the terminal, use a screw driver and look for a spark when you start it via body ground. u must always hav 12.6 v for a coil ignition--u cud hav hurt the alternator - the relay is burnt too probly - the spark area and wiring seems to hav issues--get a clymer manual for detaild engine work--cdi is capacitor discharge ign
Check all wiring connections on cdi unit - just follow spark plugs leads back. If all cables are ok then you need to check the cdi unit out. Check that cut out switch is not on, although it should not tunr over, if this was the case
My problem started like this,I found No spark so changed coil, cdi, voltage reg, eventualy found stator at fault, check pick up strip on flywheel and pick up pin on black pick up coil, this is fixed to stator and sends spark signal to cdi, mine were both rusty/dirty,I fitted a new stator, but now have light problems..stator seems to be to strong.
did you check the primary coil? the ignition coil?if you think that these are all good, then you must replace the CDI.You cant test a CDI if this is good or not because it is a form of IC or integrated circuit, unless you have a manufacturer's diagram of it.You can check it by by detaching into its plug and get and replace an old CDI which you know is working, for example, get the CDI of the other motorcycle (if it has)the try to plug-in ,and if it fires, then thre you can surely know that the problem is on the CDI.
The voltage on the green wire must be pulsating when cranking/starting the bike, not steady. Confirm by similarly testing the voltage on the black wire on the left ignition coil. If the green still reads a constant voltage, then the CDI is faulty; to be more specific, most likely that the switching tansistor inside the CDI that drives the right ignition coil has shorted.
cheers for any helpSeems odd normally like mine there is a starter solenoid??
I got odd starting problems, I think solenoid.
You should have a big 12v in and out. The plug in centre should carry a signal from the switch to initiate the solenoid and give the starter its voltage.
Try checking this with a multimeter.
I also found the connections under the dash/behind headlights were SERIOUSLY corroded, could be worth checking.,,,
I turn on the Ign and light comes on- crank the starter and it spins with plenty of powerbut wont start. Took the plug out and earthed it to the enginewhile cranking, but no spark. Put in new plug and the same result. So whats the next step to find the trouble.
Thanks Gerry,Time to start trouble-shooting the ignition system. With a multi tester and a service manual, you can test the coil, or have a shop do it, same with the CDI unit. But you can look for broken wires/bad connections in the pick-up wires and any wires leading to/from the CDI.,,,
