Tip & How-To about Motorcycles

How to change rings in a 2-stroke dirt bike.

Hi there, ok first off pull everything like the gas tank and seat and if you have to, the rumber plates. Then take the exhuast header off, next, you want to take the spark plug out and then if u can ok the coolent core, undo the coolent hose, (if your dirt bike is on a stand) put ur dirt bike in the highest gear as possible and slowly turn the wheel backwards and antifreeze should come out, once empty put bike back in N and losen the bottom bolt in a star patteren. and after that take the bolts all the way off, then get a rub malet. and lightly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tap it once on each sid and the top end should come completely off. After that take the rings off and start with the part of the ring, with the pin in the piston. And the ring should pop right off. then reverse the steps. NOTE: when put the rings back in and u start ur bike up, dont rev it paast 500 rpms (until after break in) (break in is less then half throttle for a gas tank full to empty)

2010 GSXR 750 change exhaust headers, put in dyno and auto tuner but i notice when start petrol flying out of exhaust and one of the header pipes are cold checked all connections and are fine It starts ok but only 3 pipes are hot anything i have done wrong puzzled?

Instructions
    • 1 Remove the rider's seat, using an Allen socket to unscrew the pair of bolts that secure the rear of the seat to the frame. Lift the rear of the seat upward then pull the seat toward the rear of the motorcycle to disengage it from the frame's catch tabs.
    • 2 Remove the pair of bolts that secure the front of the gas tank to the frame. Lift the fuel tank upward on the pivot at the base of the tank. Support the fuel tank against the frame using the tank's support rod.
    • 3 Remove the air box. Pull the three air hoses from the air box. Loosen the clamps on the air box's rubber boots with a screwdriver, and pull the air box out of the motorcycle.
    • 4 Pull the four coil packs out of the motor's cylinders. Clear any dirt and debris that has accumulated on top of the cylinders with compressed air, directing the air into the spark plug holes that the coil packs were installed in. Remove the spark plugs using a spark plug socket attached to a socket extension.
    • 5 Install new, properly gapped spark plugs into the motor with a spark plug socket. Tighten the socket until it is seated firmly against the motor. Reinstall the coil packs onto the spark plugs.
    • 6 Reinstall the air box, tightening the clamps on the rubber boots to secure the air box to the throttle bodies. Reconnect the trio of air hoses to the air box.
    • 7 Remove the tank support rod and lower the fuel tank onto the frame. Insert and tighten the fuel tank bolts with an Allen socket. Reinstall the seat, firmly tightening the mounting bolts with an Allen socket.

moped wont pull away

If it is a two stroke engine( has an oil injection tank or requires oil/gas premix) it could be a carbon clogged exhuast port and or pipe. Try removing the exhuast pipe and viewing the inside of the exhuast port. Scratch out all crusty carbon buildup. I have seen ports virtually close themselves off with carbon in extreme cases. After cleaning try running with exhuast removed. It will be very loud but will tell you if pipe is clogged. If it is the best way to fix is to replace the muffler. Good luck.

How hard is it to change out the oil pump and related parts?

It can be kind of time consuming to do, Youll have to pull the gas tank, release the pressure of the push rods on the top end, usually take off the exhuast, pull the cam chest cover, pull the cam support plate, and then you can replace the oil pump. Dont forget all the seals and gaskets.

I would recomend buying a service manual, as it is very in depth, more than I would like to explain step by step here.

where is the gas filter

Hi,

The gas filter is inside the gas tank. If you're wanting to change the filter, first remove all gas from the tank.
Next, remove cover and probably the air filter so you can see the fuel lines.
Use a needle nose pliers to grab the filter through the tank opening.
Some chain saws have 2 lines coming from the tank. Give a little tug on the gas filter to see which line it is attached to inside.
You will have to remove the line at the other end where it attaches to the pump or crankcase.
Pull the filter and line up and out of the tank. Put on a new filter and pull the line back to the nipple it was attached to.
Push down on the filter to seat it in the opening.

Depending on the make and model of your chainsaw, some have washers under the filter that seat against the inside of the fuel tank. Be sure to press this kind to seat it.

Hope this helps. If it does. I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,

Handie Andie
