How to Clean a 2-Stroke EXHAUST.

Cleaning (de-coke, de-carbon) an exhaust header, expansion chamber and pipe is a periodical must to reap full advantage of the engines capabilities, that is often overlooked. A simple, quick and cheap method is to remove pipe from bike (and muffler) and place a length of cable wire (old clutch or speedo) or the metal shroud that surrounds it (stripped of rubber sleeve) long enough to exit both ends by 300mm (12"). Attach one end to drill chuck, Spray WD40 liberally into pipe and roll around till inner surface is covered, and spin drill with a slight in and out motion. A few minutes of this and then rinse out with water into a rag covered basket with a garden hose spray nozzle. For your health and safety, it may be wise to wear gloves and goggles. See results below. Note: Two old expansion chambers have been here cut for illustrative purposes!

ktm exc 250 2001 model starts then bogs out exspansion chamber full of oil and when i say full it was running out of it

More than likely it's not oil running out of the exhaust. It's excess gas cleaning out the carbon in the exhaust which looks like fresh oil running out. I would check your float in the carb. It's probably running over and filling the cylinder with more gas than it needs.

My cr500 dies when revved

Before you do anything else you need to give it a service (filter and plug change) if this doesn't help then you need to give the bike a de-coke. When a 2-stroke runs it burns oil, this leads to carbon build up in the combustion chamber and sludge in the exhaust pipe(silencer). The instructions for this are in your manual, and should be carried out regularly to keep the engine running. I hope you get your "oiler" running properly again.

i have the error P 2106 on my ford explorer 2005 because there is message "fail Engine safe mode"

That means the accelerator pedal is in fail safe and you will only get 35% throttle accleration you should have other accompaining codes with this 2106 and those should be done first if you have ABS codes that has to be done first,2106 can be causes by a open TAC wiring disconnect, a TPS sensor that has failed (Throttle position sensor), Here is the big concern you will need to check to see if all the module are communicating with each other, you mainly will have to go to the dealer for this concern and only thier scan too can fix it and find the problem

Backfires at decelaration, and popping at steady pace of travel

Hi, the most common cause of this is an air leak into the exhaust system, check the header pipe gaskets and any other joins in the exhaust system. Another cause can be damaged valves and seats usually caused by not cleaning the valley before removing spark plugs, small stones then fall into the combustion chamber causing the damage. Hope this helps, cheers.

how much more hp would i get with headers and new system

Headers and a freer flowing exhasut just by itself won't gain you alot of power, maybe 20 horsepower. What is needed is a freer flowing intake and fuel supply along with a better ignition curve to fully take advantage of the freer flowing exhaust. If running fuel injection, you would need a performance chip for the ECU/PCM,to really take advantage of the exhaust system. If running a carburetor, the jets would beed to be increased in size slightly, and a performance curve programmed into the distributor.Think of an engine as a huge iron lung, air in,air out. When you make modifications or improvements to increase the amount of air flow overall, air IN is as important as air OUT.They both need to be adressed is what i'm saying,to take full advantage of any mods.Providing the intake, fuel and ignition are addressed along with the headers and exhaust, expect a good 50 horsepower gain overall (V 8) if not more.Higher gains will require a more radical camshaft, and some driveability will be sacrificed there.
