Tip & How-To about Motorcycles

HOW TO EASILY OIL A MOTORCYCLE CHAIN WITH NO MAIN STAND

If there is no main stand on your motorbike it can be a problem sometimes, not only do side stands dig into soft ground & warm tarmac they also make it awkward to oil the drive chain !

A simple way around this is to get either :-
A piece of strong piece of wood about an inch square ( or in diameter) or
A strong hammer or mallet or
A small trolley jack handle or similar preferably with rubber or taped ends

Whatever you use it must be about an inch (or more) longer than from the ground to the right hand end of the rear spindle (axle) or underside of the right hand swinging arm, WHILE THE BIKE LEANS on its side stand: For the very few bikes that have a side stand on the right, read left hand end of rear spindle

All you have to do is raise the rear wheel slightly by pivoting the weight of the bike on its front wheel & side stand

On medium to large bikes this means getting someone else to position themself on the side stand side of the bike, where they should put 1 foot against the side stand & reach over the bike to grab a good purchase point near the rear wheel, grab the nearest handlebar end with the other hand & pivot the bike forwards on its front wheel & side stand
This will lift the rear wheel a few inches so that your prop can be placed upright between the ground & your selected point on the bike

Spin the rear wheel by hand whilst applying non fling chain lubrication to both edges of your bikes chain

SIMPLE
EFFECTIVE
NO NEED TO CARRY A PADDOCK STAND IN YOUR RUCKSACK

I hope this helps (if so give good feedback please)

triumph trident 93 model side stand works as it should but warning stays on with stand up john

Hi, John either the switch is faulty or the circuit is grounded to the light that being said the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

how do I open it to look inside?

First, lay the tv/monitor on its screen on something level and soft as not to damage the screen. Remove any visible screws that seem to attach the base to the unit. Some models you have to look under the base for pins orso to push together to slide the base from the stand, only then you could reach the 1 screw holding the monitor to the stand....Once stand removed, remove any screws you see holding the monitor casing together, usually only a few screws since they are mostly held together by plastic "clips"...Once screws are removed, then gently insert a flat(screwdriver orso) inbetween the case?housing, repeat this all the way around the case/housing till completely loose....You will prob have a few wires or maybe a ground wire that you would have to remove before completely being able to seperate both sides(front case, back case)..Sometimes you might have to unscrew and remove the skinny washer/nut around the cable input orso..
Good luck!
