Tip & How-To about Motorcycles

Get a bigger spark at your plugs ,for weak spark at plugs

For bad starting only ,To increase your spark on a plug ,Get a pencil and put the pencil lead over the spark plug points ,the pencil lead increases the spark up to ten times. This is only to be used for stubborn engines that have not been running for a long time .

I was told the spark plug gap was supposed to be 42

spark plugs are not as critical as in the older point controlled systems
the gap increased the resistance to the spark to jump and so gave a hotter spark when it occurred ( same as putting a button in the copper wired lead to burn oil on the plug)
as modern vehicles use a much higher voltage ( early 16.000 volts ,late 60.000 volts ) the the plug gap went from .025" to .050" for a better spark front to ignite the mixture
the correct gap for your vehicle can be obtained from plug catalogs, parts dealers , service shops
it is more important to use the correct HT leads as recommended by the manufacturer as there are variations of internal resistance in the carbon track in the lead that will affect the spark

95 Honda civic stalls when I accelerate

Test your compression on all 4 cylinders. Test fuel pressure at the rail. Check your spark plugs and leads while doing the compression test. It's unlikely to be bad spark plugs, but it's possible, that when you increase the load, the spark plug high-tension leads are finding a shorter path to ground. Just a few ideas on where to start.

my bike will not start, it sounds like it doesnt even want to start i have just replaced the spark plug last week due to the same problem and it started first kick

Firstly check that you have a spark at the plug gap and if so is the plug wet with fuel ?If so on both counts try rubbing a pencil lead on the plugs gap ,this may sound daft but the lead from the pencil increases your sparks power five times .But only use this idea when bike fails to fire .if problem carries on check your air cleaner unit ,and if dirty change it .

hard to start, new bike only 20 miles carb clean valves correct comp good great spark.all work done by factory suzuki tech. dealersphip stmppppped! new bike should run

If you have a good spark and fuel is getting to the cylinders ,check commpression .If compression is good ,Try rubbing pencil lead over plug points ,( This will give a greater spark ) or heat up plugs on gas ring till hot and replace quickly while plugs still hot ..Don't forget to wear gloves.Get a friend to help .and cut down the time of putting plugs back in engine .
