How to take off the rear tire on a Kawasaki Drifter 1500

1. Lay out a towel/cloth to set fender on and protect.
2. With bike on jack and raised(back tire/wheel just off ground), remove entire rear fender.
3. Unplug wire harness left side just to front of left shock after you remove screw/cover. There's a 8mm bolt just above and over. Same bolt opposite side of fender.
4. Remove the 4 (12mm) bolts holding fender bracket to rear housing (left) and swing arm rear (right). Hold it because it will tip back and bang! It's not real heavy but you do need to support it.
5. When removed set on towel/cloth you have ready.
6. Release pressure from brake caliper (push/pull on caliper) remove brake caliper and hang it by wire (coat hangers work great) so it's not dangling from hose. Do not touch or let anyone touch brake pedal.
7. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolt that goes through swingarm. Place a towel/cloth on floor beneath brake area.
8. Remove cotter key from axle nut.
9. Remove axle while holding axle on the left side with wrench. You can use a large crescent on the axle nut so you don't have to remove exhaust/muffler.
10. As you loosen, slide axle to the left till nut clears muffler.
11. Now when you can slide the axle out. Support the tire/wheel as it is heavy. Caution: As the axle slides out of the brake caliper bracket the spacer could fall and hit towel (which is why you put the towel there see? It prevents too much marring.
12, Now you have room to slide tire/wheel assembly over to right and disengage from the gearcase. Caution: There is a spacer in the center of the gearcase that sometimes falls out and sometimes stays in (most of time). Just make sure it goes back the same.
13. When you're ready for the re-install, grease the drive splines with good quality axle grease.
14 Re-install everything in the reverse order you took it apart.
15. Re- torque rear axle from the left side and hold axle nut (right side) with same large crescent you used to loosen the nut and install a new cotter pin. Doing it this way saves you having to remove the muffler.

Simplified version:

Get rear wheel off ground.
Remove rear belt guard, if equipped.
Loosen axle adjusters.
Loosen Axle nut.
Remove axle - NOTE -pay attention to wheel spacer(s) location and orientation!
With wheel/tire on ground, roll/slide forward to give belt enough slack so it can be slipped off wheel pulley.
Tilt wheel/tire so it will clear rear fender to roll//slide wheel/tire out from under bike.

By "changing the front wheel" do you mean how do you remove the wheel from the bike? If so, Start by securing the motorcycle in a upright position and place a jack under the engine with a wood protector between the jack and engine. Raise the motorcycle until the front tire is just touching the ground. Remove both brake calipers then loosen and remove the axle nut. Now remove the axle clamp and slide the axle out of the wheel. Note how the speedometer gear is mounted before pulling the axle. Now raise the motorcycle until the tire assembly will clear the fender. Reassembly is exact reverse of removal with the exception of when you install the axle you will tighten the axle nut before you tighten the axle clamp.

you need a way to secure the bike so that it cannot fall !
then place a flat jack under the bike and raise till it touches
now remove the lock ring and have a friend hold the rear brake while you loosen the nut. now you can jack the bike up till tire just comes off the ground and remove the wheel.

USE a torque wrench to secure the nut and ensure the wheel pins to the spindle in its proper location....reinstall lock ring (tighten only to get it pinned in place).

How do you remove the rear tire on a 2000 kawasaki ZRX1100?

Take out the cotter pin and Loosen the large but on the right side, but do not remove it yet. Jack up the rear wheel until it is clear of the ground about an inch. Raise the bike with a floor jack and have two buddies on each side or two tie downs keep it balanced. Remove the large nut. shove the wheel forward as far as it will go and take the chain off the sprocket. let it lay on top of the swing arm. Take a block of wood and gently tap the axle in now pull it out from the other side. You may have to support the wheel to do this. once the axle is out the wheel will drop down to the floor. remove the brake bracket and caliper. be sure to watch and note where the spacers go on each side of the bike so you can get them back where they belong. with the brake clear and the chain off the sprocket roll the wheel out the rear of the bike. To reinstall, reverse the above and install a new cotter pin when done for safety. best wishes!

21" Conversion On A FLHTC

I have installed many 21" wheels on all the touring modles and have never had to raise the fender with any conversion kit.It should fit rite on without any parts. Yo do need to loosen up the mounting bolts and rock the nose of the fender down a little to get more clearanse at the bottom.
