Tip & How-To about Motorcycles

Removing stubbon master cylinder screws.

One of the things i learned when doing my time as an apprentice motorcycle mechanic is never underestimate the old " slow" guy in the workshop.I learnt this tip from such a guy and from then on I listened and watched him carefully when i could. These tips are not special , just practical ,like the job itself.Less haste ,less waste. Patients and knowledge are whats needed and the "old slow guys"can do it quicker because they have these 2 qualities in bucket loads...Thanks..Rex ! Tip # 1. To quickly remove the the phillips head screws on your master cylinder when they are either rusted in or the heads are mashed or both, use a centre punch at a 45 degree angle towards the outer perimeter of the head of the screw.A few medium blows will loosen it off,THEN you can screw it out. replace with allen key head type screws or put a dab of waterproof grease on a new screw and hunker it down. This may seem a simple tip now but when your young and you think you could remove, strip down and re-install the engine on the space-shuttle all by yourself then this kind of simple " handy" tip is very humbling.

Hi there i have a ford focous 1.6 desiel 2007 the car drives fine but if you go fast it will slow donw and show a red light saying engine system fault.dose anyone no what this could be

It could be any number of things at fault.

Take your car to a workshop and ask them to run a computerised diagnostic test to identify the actual fault. There's many things which can cause a management light to come on. Let a workshop or mobile mechanic look at it.

how do i change the headlight bulb on my 2006 yamaha yzf r6s i just got it and know nothing about machanics but want to learn. thanx for the help

The best thing you can do is take the bike to your main dealer and just ask how you go about changeing the headlight bulb ,Normally they are very helpfull .exspecially if there is no customers and things are quiet .give it a try .And do your self a favour and get hold of a workshop manual ..All your answers to any problems are to be found in there.

why does my aprilia rs 125 clutch pressure plate keep breaking?

if your not tensioning them properly and evenly they will do that

have you also replaced the springs?

you really need the manual to do this if you are not familliar with the procedure.

Does your Pegaso Overheat?

meaning that they all overheat. just want to check with you guys if it happens to you too. thx Only in slow heavy traffic (or at very slow speed AND in very hot weather) but if the fan works alright do not worry. It should get cooler as soon as you start riding normally again, i.e. around 20/30 mph. ,,,

Timing belt

That depends on what you consider a laymen. This is somthing a two and a half to three year apprentice would due under the helpful eye of a class A Mechanic. But if you think your a very handy guy, have worked on cars for a while and have a knowledge of engine markings and engine parts with a Bentley, Chiltons,,or a Haynes manual that you could attempt this yourself or mayby a freind with some experiance could help you. If you do it yourself I would give yourself the better part of the weekend to complete hope this helps.
