I think my battery is dead. Do I try to charge it

To charge battery, use a trickle charger at 2 amp. Batteries usually only last about 3 years, so if battery is at that age it probably needs replaced. (Replaced my battery with a lawn mower battery that matched the original battery size.) I would try to get a charge on the battery before replacing it. Replacing the battery could be expensive. Battery could also be low on zinc, water, or acid.

Loosen the pinch bolts of the upper tree first to release tension on the tubes. Bob If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/robert_beef7390c57fac0d

Well,...either someone has toyed with the baffles inside the mufflers,or they have rusted, and are starting to come apart. My reccomendation would be to buy a set of aftermarket slip-ons,or a full exhaust system.Good Luck!

Jet kit, vance n hines,k@n, ran well for 500 mi now

Jets could be the wrong size, could be the gas, or could still be the plugs. The backfiring is from too much fuel getting into the exhaust and igniting. Running rough at low rpm's is usually a sign of too much fuel as well. I would try adjusting the idle control to see if it doesn't help regulate the fuel to the jets.

Can you adjust handlebars of yamaha 650 v star

Handlebars can be adjusted up and down, but I know of no way to adjust bars forward and back. I would check the levelness of the forks just to make sure that the motorcycle has not been in a front end collision.

I purchased a used 2004 650 yamaha custom

There is an idle screw on the right side of the motorcycle. However, I would suggest downloading an Owners Manual from the internet just for future use. It is free if you go to the correct site.

My 2004 classic xvs650 speedometer isnt working

Check your speedometer cable where it connects to the speedometer. These often come loose. You can also disconnect it and see if it turns when your front wheel is raised off the ground and spun. If the cable turns, your speedometer is likely bad. If the cable does not turn when the wheel is spinning check the other end of the cable at the front wheel. Remove the cable at the speedometer drive unit on the front wheel. Inside where the cable connects there is a flat pin in the center that should turn when the front wheel is spun. If the drive unit is not turning, you will need to remove it for inspection and likely replacement. On the front wheel you will want to make sure the tabs that turn the speedometer drive are not damaged as well.
Good luck

What is the recommended pressure for a 2004 vstar

Look at the sidewall of both tires. There will be a 'MAX PSI' embossed on the tire. It will probably say Max 45 PSI. At 45psi the bike will ride like a rock. At 15psi it will ride really squirrely. Find a psi at which you feel the bike handles well and rides well. One rider may weigh 125 pounds and the next rider may weigh 300pounds. The best psi for each rider will be different due to weight. Generally 35psi works for most riders.

What's the simplest way to remove the gas tank

Go to a auto paint supply store and buy the emblem remover spray costs about ten bucks and will scrape off with plastic squeegee you can buy one four a buck at the same place and if you don't know of any paint stores look in the yellow pages of the phone book under paint and look for auto paint retail store. You can also use a hair dryer and a single edge razor blade heat the emblem up with the hair dryer and carefully get blade under the emblem then pull on the tip and keep a steady slow pull on the emblem and use the blade to help lift it up. Then you can clean the glue off with gasoline or super Clean. Be sure you have the gas cap on and a wet rag around the tank lid to prevent a spark from hair dryer igniting the gas. If you need more assistance let me know please rate and thank you for using fixya.

if you didn't really really clean the carbs (full disassembly, all ports checked for good continuity) then go back and take them apart.
