The cable is connected to the bottom of the speedo and most bikes are easily accessible and can be unscrewed with a pair of pliers.Once out check it the cable is not snapped inside..you will know it easily if it has.If if has snapped remove and place the broken bit of cable in the speedo, where the cable goes in..Give it a quick turn and observe if the speedo needle moves.You could use a small drill if you cannot spin it enough to move the needle.This test is to make sure if speedo is still working.Now also you may need to check the bottom front wheel speedo mechanism and see if it turns the cable, sometimes these becomes faulty too.Hope this helps.

I would go for the water pump seal first, it is an easy fix. Pull the left case cover and there it is. You will of course have to take the water pump cover off and all the plumbing that goes with it. Be sure that when you put the new water pump seal in not to put any lubricant like oil or grease on it. This is a ceramic seal and oil or grease on it will ruin it. There is also a spring in there that keeps pressure on the seal so replace that as well. You will see what is there when you get it apart. Replace any corroded/rusted parts. Take a good look at the impeller and make sure it is 100% while you are in there. Sometimes these will break loose from the shaft. If you have any questions about it replace it. If after that you still have water in the oil it would be a head or base gasket I am thinking requiring an adult to intervene, a qualified Ducati mechanic.
