Yamaha xj600 doesn't start
Hi ..... Does the light come on with the ignition switch or the starter button ? If you can turn over by bridging then it sounds like the button or the ignition switch. Yamaha buttons are terrible for corrosion or the amount of current it draws melts the backing plate and allows it to 'sink' into the plastic and thus fails to connect. Take the headlight cover off and find the wires from the right hand swith loom, short out between the starter wires, this'll at least let you see if its the starter button that's the problem. If it is the handle bar swith assembly has to be changed OR if you're patient and careful they can be taken apart but BEWARE there are small springs and screws which if you strip, drop or fail to see are easy to lose and are unavailable to buy singley from Yamaha.

could be a bad wire or plug cap they have a resister in them, each coil fires two plugs, so if the other one works off that coil the cdi is probably ok.
pull the caps off and check the resistance from the plug wire back to the coil ground, they need to be the same, the wires are moulded into the coils so if one has high or open resistance-new coil required
The start botton does not work and the horn
Sometimes these switches stop working due to arcing between the contacts. Both the starter solenoid and the horn are high current devices and there can be sparks created at the switch contacts when you use them. This will lead to the contacts getting dirty and unable to supply any or enough power to operate the starter or horn.
Unscrew the switch blocks from the handlebars and take the switches out and visually check them. There will usually be extra screws holding these switches in the switch blocks which you will need to remove. If they are blackened then this is probably the cause of the problem. You can clean the contacts using a fine sandpaper until they are smooth and shiny again. Take careful note of any springs that are fitted and ensure you fit them the same way when you reassemble the switch block.
I have a 1994 Yamaha xj600 diversion when i put it
yes that is normal as when you do this you are puuting the bike in gear and with the rear wheel of the ground the engine ticking over is just enough to get the rear wheel spinning but not always enough momentum hence the clunking sound of the engine
Hard to get gear
Adjust the clutch lever to minimum play & / or reset clutch actuator

HI,I HAVE JUST BOUGHT AN XJ600 DIVERSION.WHEN
Paul,
Your Yamaha seems to be needing a clutch adjustment.
You can adjust this on your own by turning the adjusting nut out (at the handlebars) to take up the slack. If that doesn't fix the issue completely, turn the nut back to where it was, and adjust the cable at the clutch housing (right side). Start in small adjustments, and work your way from there. When you get it close, go back to the adjusting nut located at the handlebars and do the fine tuning there. Be sure to leave some slack from full release of the handle to where you feel the clutch tension start. If you don't, the clutch will not fully engage. If this doesn't fix the issue, let me know and we can go from there.
Hope this helps
