Speedometer was working and now
Make sure you lubricate the cable first, you may have to remove some of the bodywork from around the speedomiter to make it easyer to get at the screw thread on the clock, undo it from the clock you may need a small pair of pliers to turn the screw in an anticlockwise rotation, remove from speedo drive, and make sure all is clean and ready for the new cable, replace it wheel side first, following same route as orriginal, replace as previouse on the speedomiter, you may have to rotate wheel in order to locate the cable into the clock, tighten , check the cable does not foul any part when moving the handlebars from left to right.
My bike when started only runs on choke once i
Too much air or not enough fuel...Probably not enough fuel. Make sure the fuel flows freely from tank to carbs. Crack the screws on the bowls to make sure fuel flows out. If the bike was running and this started to happen I would suspect foreign matter in the float bowls (carb cleaning time)....if it was more of a problem after a period of storage then I would suspect varnish is clogging one or more of the circuits in the carb(s)....(carb cleaning time).
Some folks have good success with additives such a seafoam for instance...supposed to dissolve varnish. It does work but not every time.
Could be many things....more detail in the question could help.
Take care.
How much oil do forks hold on a 1996 honda cbr
Your shocks hold a measured amount of oil. You will have to get the dealer to look it up for you when you buy the oil, 2 pints will be more than enough. But get the schematic from them too. If you are taking them apart and replacing the seal. Do one at a time, put all the parts in a row as they come out, so they can go back in the same way, don't forget, they are under pressure, hang on to them. Hope this helps.
Why does my bike only start in gears and takes off
I would start with the neutral switch in the transmission. it sounds like the switch is bad and it thinks it is in neutral when it is actually in gear. If it takes off automatically as well, I think the problem does lie there, for the clutch is bad as well. I would take to service shop for a job of this magnitude.
What oil do i put
To change your oil you will need 4 quarts of oil, a
filter, and a new aluminum drain plug washer. You can reuse the old drain plug washer
if it has not been squished out of shape. Your
motorcycle comes from Honda usually with 10w-40 mineral base
motorcycle
oil. You can use
any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold
climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different
additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not
use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label .
It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If
you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift
easier. Pour in three quarts of oil and add enough from the fourth quart
to reach the high mark on the dip stick or inspection window. Make sure
the motorcycle is upright or on the center stand when checking the
level . You will probably need
3.1 to 3.4 quarts to hit the high mark. Run the motor for a minute or
two to fill the oil filter compartment with oil. Now recheck the oil
level and top up as needed. If you want to try an inexpensive full
synthetic oil that is JASO MA rated 15w-40 Shell Rotella T Synthetic
fits the bill at about $22 per gallon.
Cam chain rattle when engine is idling
This bike is well known for cam chain rattle, but it has an automatic tensioner so there are no adjustments. If the bike runs well just ride it. I have a friend that had his cam chain, tensioner and guides, and in less than a couple years it was making the same sounds. If the bike run rough then it is a possibility the chain has stretched and unless you are confident with timing issues take it to a pro.
Cbr 1000f fuel filter location
The fuel filter is located on the petcock valve that sticks up into the tank. Make sure it is well sealed after repair.
1987 cbr1000f overheating
Start with the simple things first. The thermostat is in the thermostat case under the right handlebar, check that the fan works (hot jump it), and check the thermal switch, which is on the left front of the radiator.
I can not seem to
The alternator (stator) should pull right off unless the key is still in the shaft. Push the stator back on and feel for a raised portion on the shaft. If you need to you can rotate the shaft by hand to visually inspect.
