Bent shift fork.

check that the pinion drive pivot pin on the solenoid is in place as it appears to be moving the solenoid to make contact but not moving the pinion out into the ring gear if it is the type where the pinion is thrown out into the ring gear by the initial spin of the armature then use powered graphite in the shaft to help it slide freely.

unscrew it or pull off the keeper

Hi John: There are switches at both the pedal and lever that activate the same brake light. Either you are not getting power to the switches, or it is not getting to the brake light (or the brake light bulb is burnt out). Try checking the bulb first, and while you have the bulb out, use a voltmeter to see if you're getting power to the bulb. Then check to see if you're getting power to the switches. I don't know if there is a separate fuse for that circuit, so check your fuses. Odds are you'll have it solved pretty quickly. Hope this helps.
