A bike of that vintage should have 10W40 in the summer, and 10W30 in the winter.
Check your fuses for the starter issue, and also check the neutral and clutch safety interlocks.
Most bikes won't start is they think they are not in neutral or the clutch isn't pulled in.
M still only getting fire to 3-4 cyl. also turns
There are cases like these where a couple of cylinders are not firing, this may be caused by a burnt valve. The exhaust valve may not be closing completely. See if adjusting the clearance would help.
It could also be the ignition coil. Below is a sample. If I am not mistaken GSX uses the similar components. It could be a worn out contact. Most likely you need to replace it. If you know someone with the same bike that is working perfectly I suggest to swap coils first to check.

Number 1 cylinder has spark
Hummm, well to fire you need spark (at the correct time), compression, and fuel.
It sounds like you have spark, so do you have COMPRESSION? It needs to be similar to the other cylinders +/- 15% or so.
IF you have spark, and compression, try an external fuel source diagnostically, in the #1 cylinder. Spray some carb cleaner into that carb when unit is running.
Did you balance the carbs? Carb surgery often gets balance all out of spec.
I bought a 1983 gs1100e
Check into a set of stage 3 jets, you will need to take the bike to a bike shop to have them put in as well as have the carbs resinked afterwards.

Suzuki 1982 GS1100GL won't accelerate

My motorcycle engine turnsover making a popping
Get the battery to starter connection checked. Also check the spark plugs and voltage at spark plugs. If the connections are loose or spark plug is faulty/worn out it will make such popping noise.--------
------------
Also the noise which you mentioned can be trans bearing or clutch release bearing. The clutch snapping against the basket. But it has to be checked.
----------
For engine does not want to stay running, check the fuel pressure. If the fuel pressure is low the fuel flow will be low so this can cause the engine to shut off. Also get checked all the sensors and switches with the motor there are 2 sensor on the air box IAT (intake air temp) and the IAPS (intake air pressure). If any of the one is faulty then it can cause the problem. The fuel pump and fuel filter has to be replaced if the fuel pressure is checked low.In many cases the worn out fuel pump and clogged fuel filter cause this problem.Replacing it solves the issue.

This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
1980 suzuki gsx1100 starter motor wont engage.
Try jumping across the solenoid with a screw driver or pliers that dont have rubber handles. Sparks will happen but wont hurt you. If the motor turns over then it is the soleniod. If it doesnt then it is probably the starter brushes are gone. I hope this helps you.
