996 bogging down then stalling
it starts to bog down and stall. on top of this the battery won't charge.
Any possible knowledge on what's going on?Most likely you have a dead battery or a battery with a bad cell. Which can cause the problems you are describing. Also have you tested the charging system?,,,
The brake light is stuck on. any ideas ?. as soon
As the light becomes live naturaly when the ignition is switched on normally, it can only be the break switch or the wire from the lamp has chafed against the metalwork of the bike and made the circuit complete. Indeed the handlebar break light switch is a good place to start!
Hope thaqt helps.
I would like to lower the seat height on my Ducati 996
You can wind down the arse end of the bike through the rear shocky of the bike.It has an adjustable spring for ride height and preload.Your toolkit would have come with a tool to do this and it is quiet easy to do.When you do this,it will affect the handling of the bike so be gentle in the adjustments and not do too much at one time. The bike has a really good balance for most riders straight out of the box,and being a sports bike,it can't be dropped to far.Hope this helps
Clutch squeals when disengaging... HELP!
The clutch may have overheated in the past. I had a similar problem at about 1,500 miles because of stop and go traffic in 95 degree weather. The plates heat up and glaze over as they slip. I installed an open clutch cover on the same bike and I am now at 6,000 miles with a non squeeling clutch pack.
1098 end caps on 996 exhaust?
You could get actual 1098 cans chop the pipes off weld a reducer on and then in turn weld that to your stock pipes... lotsa welding work though and its hard to find someone who'll do a really good job on stainless.,,,
Oil sump mod or fix
Deep sumps are to keep the pickup in the oil at all times even when the front end is way off the ground - I don't think it'll have any effect on sending oil out the crankcase breather. An aftermarket tail-mounted breather box will keep oil out of the airbox but it's expensive probably hard to find nowadays, and forces you to reroute a lot of wiring as well as relocate your computer box. Simpler to just do fewer and smaller wheelies,,,
Will 1098 forks fit 996
will the 1098 Showa forks fit a 996 have done a search but haven't found much. I know they will fit in the standard 996 triple clamps but will my standard 996 wheel and brake rotors fit or will i need different offset rotors? The 1098 forks are actually pretty much the same as the xx9 forks. The xx8 bikes use a different diameter upper fork tube, so it won't just fit in. I think the xx8 is 53mm top and 54mm bottom and the 848/1098 is 54mm all the way through. So you'd have to change the triples, which isn't a big deal, you should be able to fit a xx9 triple on there.
Even after that, they are radial mounts and you'd have to get a different set of rotors and calipers.
Its not a big deal to do any of this... If you want a better front end on your 996, I highly suggest re-building the stock showa's with ohlins inserts. If you want better braking, buy a set of the older gold series 4pod/pad calipers, they work fantastic and mount to all the older forks.
Radial mounts are a gimmick and a rebuilt fork is always gonna be better then a stock one...,,,
Throttle bodies linkage worn
after having the valves done and belts replaced that my Throttle bodies can't be sync'd because of worn linkage see pic.
I have looked around and haven't read of this happening often.
Sounds like a rare problem. Anyone know of this happening?
I can get the linkage rod but where it connects to the butterfly valve is worn or so im told , i get the bike back today and will check it out.
If the linkage is stuffed i am thinking 2nd hand Throttle bodies as an option but am not sure about the interchangeability of the 916 748 996 bodies ,the 2nd hand bodies around are mostly 748 916 . Can these be used or am i waiting for a set of 996?,If he can't sync it because the linkage is worn - you need a new tech
Ask him, og diy - use only one idle screw - on the TB's where the cable is attached. On the other TB - just remove the screw, and you will be fine
After this - the spring will eliminate the slak on the linkage. Sync is a bit different - both airscrews in same position, and adjust the lenght on the linkage to your TB are in sync.,,,
