Melting rectifier on ducati 900 ss

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, it is a known/common failure of the regulator. This is especially so for those models with 2 phase alternators (2 yellow wires). The charging current is shared by only 4 diodes (rectifier). I have replaced in my 907 with 3 phase (3 yellow wires) effectively increasing the diodes to 6 thereby distributing the current and lessen the heat build-up. The charging also improved as noted by brighter headlights. In the 907, the yellow wires passes on the left side of the bike from the regulator to the engine. There are also connectors along the way that gets corroded.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Starting issues

replaced with a new one. i hit the start button motor will barely turn over. i am lost. its doing the same thing as the old battery which was new last year. sure culd use some input. almost forgot also tried to jump alsojust dose not have enough balls to roll the moter overit tries but no go.what does it sound like when it is turning over? like the starter motor is really straining, or like the starter motor is really slow and lifeless? is the head light bright or dim? could be the engine is siezing up, but I doubt it. if you try to pop-start it (get it rolling on the street in high gear w/ the clutch in, then hop on and release the clutch), does the engine turn over? I'm willing to bet it's somthing simple, like one of the battery leads or leads to the starter is loose or damaged and not enough current is getting through.,,,

Oil filter

I looked at the filter that came off and the part that you screw the filter on was not the same size. The K&N filter was much smaller. The filter that came off the bike was a Scotts cartridge filter one of those that you are suppose to just clean and not replace. Did someone spend a lot of money on this and change out some parts so now regular filters won't work? I'm kind of at a loss here I would like to just start using K&N as the other scotts cartridge o-ring was leaking. Anyone have experience with or seen this? What do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any help. The Scotts filter is a metal screen/mesh and IMO, will not filter as well as one with a paper media like the OEM or afaik a K&N. It's extremely unlikely that the Scotts filter required some type of insert that changed the thread pitch/size on the engine, and much more likely you have the wrong K&N. You want to make sure there isn't an o-ring from a previous oem filter stuck to the engine casing, with the Scotts filter beinbg screwing on over it. It is very possible for those o-rings to stick to the engne, ie pull out of the filter, even if they've been lubed before being spun-on. Good luck,,,

Clutch problem

i just reciently bought a 98 monster 900 i'm new to ducatis and this is my first bike besides countless dirt bikes. anyways i have had it for about 3 months and it has been running fine till about 2 days ago when i move off from a complete stop the bike shakes and stutters and almost stalls everytime but when i actually get it moving it still shifts fine but its performance over all has been sluggish after i get it going. im guessing the clutch is grabbing a little bit then slipping and thats whats causeing it to act like this? or i could be completely off. does this sound familar to anyone? thanks in advanceIt may be a lean burn condition with the engine or maybe the friction plates have worn some deep grooves into the clutch basket, or maybe some of your steel plates in the clutch pack are corroded. Maybe some of each. I had 2 out of 3 of the above with my S4 but installed a new clutch basket, clutch pack, pressure plate, and spider retainer and just enrichened the fueling today and set the idle at 1200rpm. All much better.,,,

Fork problems

they leaked just as bad. Figured i must have torn them installing them even though i followed my book instructions and even put a condom over the slider end to ease the seals over. So i tried again with the pyramid parts ones this time they turned INSIDE OUT when i came down from a wheelie. I order some from dennis kirk and they take 4 weeks to get here. I go to put them in and they are the wrong size. Can anyone reccomend where to get seals for my showa non adjustable forks? Im having bad luck so far. The dennis kirk ones are part number 14-9926 maybe they are for the marizochie? forks. I got my seals from here: http://www.racetech.com/evalving/eng...ngname=english http://www.race-tech.com/,,,

Regulator rectifier

I've used the search function with several variables with no concrete success and my Haynes manual only covers the single-phase regulator rectifiers. Here's what I got: -Charge the battery wait 30 minutes after disconnecting and it shows good volts. -Disconnect the ground (-) terminal and check the draw with all systems off 0.6mA. That's a bit higher than I'd like but not horrible. Disconnecting the ECU fuse it drops to nil. -Reconnect and run the engine at idle the volts across the battery show right about 12. -Increase RPM to 3000 and the volts steady a bit but still remain at 12. Everyone seems to think that stators rarely fail on these machines, but I'd like to be certain before I drop $80 or more on the regulator/rectifier. Anybody out there got a good idea?,Battery voltage at the battery should stabilize at aroun 14V, not 12V. The battery should be at about 12.5 when left overnight. My ST2 will hit 14V at 2k RPM with no lights, 3lk with low beams, 4k lo+hi.,,,

My 900 monster sounds like it's running on one

You need three things. Spark, Fuel, Compression. Go over the basics first. If you've got no spark, look first at the plug, the wire, then coil pack. Next likely culprit is fuel. Anything from bad injector to clogged line, to filter screen. Now, check your valve clearance and timing. An open valve or burned seat/valve can kill compression. Especially if you haven't done regular valve shim checks.

My ducati X diavel doesn't start how do I solve the problem?

When your 2016 Ducati X Diavel doesn't start, there are several steps you can take to try and diagnose and resolve the issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow: 1. Check the battery: Ensure that the battery is charged and in good condition. Check the battery connections to make sure they are secure and clean. If the battery is weak or faulty, consider charging or replacing it. 2. Ignition switch and kill switch: Verify that the ignition switch is turned on and the kill switch is in the "Run" or "On" position. Sometimes, these switches can accidentally get bumped or turned off, preventing the bike from starting. 3. Fuel level and fuel delivery: Confirm that there is enough fuel in the tank. Additionally, check for any clogged fuel filters or fuel lines that may be restricting fuel flow. If necessary, clean or replace these components. 4. Kickstand position: Some motorcycles have a safety feature that prevents the engine from starting if the kickstand is down. Ensure that the kickstand is fully retracted and try starting the bike again. 5. Spark plugs: Examine the spark plugs for any signs of fouling, wear, or damage. If needed, clean or replace the spark plugs according to the manufacturer's specifications. 6. Fuses: Inspect the fuses to see if any have blown. Replace any blown fuses with the appropriate type and rating. 7. Immobilizer system: If your Ducati X Diavel is equipped with an immobilizer system, ensure that the key you are using is programmed correctly and recognized by the system. Consult your owner's manual for specific instructions on the immobilizer system. If the issue persists after these steps, it is recommended to consult a professional Ducati technician or authorized Ducati service center. They will have the expertise and specialized diagnostic equipment to diagnose and resolve the problem with your 2016 Ducati X Diavel.
