Tail chop performed, brake light doesn't work

Hi,

Offhand, in most bikes, the tailight and the brake light are integrated in a single bulb with a common ground. This would translate then into a 3wire arrangement. The brighter of the filaments is for the brake while the dimmer of the two is for the park/running/tail light. To my knowledge, either the tail or brake lights do not use a relay, they are wired straightforward. Your described problem all points to a mis-connection, possibly the ground wire. The easiest approach would be to identify the ground wire. With ignition switch off, all light switches off, identify the ground wire with the use of a continuity tester (VOM/DVM). Disconnect the wires to the harness, on the harness, it would be the wire with nearly 0 resistance against any exposed metal or the chassis. On the wires going to the tailight assy, it wold be the wire that measures 0 ohms to the metal socket/housing of the bulb.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Oil pressure

I'd say do an oil change replacing the oil filter AND cleaning the oil screen. There might be a blockage. Also, check to make sure your idle isn't set too low. Slow spining engine means slow spinning oil pump.,,,

Tough start

I pull in the clutch and when I put it in first gear it either jumps forward and stalls or wants to move forward but doesn't quite stall. After the bike warms up the problem goes away. I am pretty familiar with clutches in cars and in general (I'm a mechanic) but I just want some opinions. Could it be air in the system that takes a warm up cycle to go away? Or is this a common problem with Monsters? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! The clutch slave can be difficult to bleed. It sounds like you have air in there. I'd bleed it and zip tie the lever to the grip overnight. That will allow air to return to the master. Another issue could be sticky plates in the clutch pack. Does the bike get ridden infrequently?,,,

Oil filter

I looked at the filter that came off and the part that you screw the filter on was not the same size. The K&N filter was much smaller. The filter that came off the bike was a Scotts cartridge filter one of those that you are suppose to just clean and not replace. Did someone spend a lot of money on this and change out some parts so now regular filters won't work? I'm kind of at a loss here I would like to just start using K&N as the other scotts cartridge o-ring was leaking. Anyone have experience with or seen this? What do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any help. The Scotts filter is a metal screen/mesh and IMO, will not filter as well as one with a paper media like the OEM or afaik a K&N. It's extremely unlikely that the Scotts filter required some type of insert that changed the thread pitch/size on the engine, and much more likely you have the wrong K&N. You want to make sure there isn't an o-ring from a previous oem filter stuck to the engine casing, with the Scotts filter beinbg screwing on over it. It is very possible for those o-rings to stick to the engne, ie pull out of the filter, even if they've been lubed before being spun-on. Good luck,,,

1999 Monster 750 runs better tipped?

plugged filters fouled plugs etc.). With some simple TLC the bike is now running pretty strong. The only problem is that it revs very high for a long time before it comes down to a normal idle. If I tip the bike to one side, the idle drops to a normal level. Is something wrong with the carbs? I have no idea what would cause this. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!,Yeah, that would be my first guess. Might want to check the throttle & choke cables too, make sure they aren't gunked up or even hung up something. That's a weird one though ... not something I can easily diagnose over the internet ..,,,

Clutch

I've got a 98 Monster 750. I just replaced the Slave Cylinder with an aftermarket Moto Wheels Slave Cylinder and now the clutch wont engage. I've bled the system and the Clutch Lever seems to have appropriate resistance. However the clutch won't engage. It has a very weak feeling of pulling when it's in gear but throttle input does not affect it. Thanks to anyone and everyone that can help.Have you checked with MotoWheels about their unit? They'd know it best, and could hopefully shed some light on it. What kind of bleeder did you use? I've had the best luck with a MightyVac set up, where you draw the fluid out from the bleed screw, rather than pump the lever.,,,

My ducati X diavel doesn't start how do I solve the problem?

When your 2016 Ducati X Diavel doesn't start, there are several steps you can take to try and diagnose and resolve the issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow: 1. Check the battery: Ensure that the battery is charged and in good condition. Check the battery connections to make sure they are secure and clean. If the battery is weak or faulty, consider charging or replacing it. 2. Ignition switch and kill switch: Verify that the ignition switch is turned on and the kill switch is in the "Run" or "On" position. Sometimes, these switches can accidentally get bumped or turned off, preventing the bike from starting. 3. Fuel level and fuel delivery: Confirm that there is enough fuel in the tank. Additionally, check for any clogged fuel filters or fuel lines that may be restricting fuel flow. If necessary, clean or replace these components. 4. Kickstand position: Some motorcycles have a safety feature that prevents the engine from starting if the kickstand is down. Ensure that the kickstand is fully retracted and try starting the bike again. 5. Spark plugs: Examine the spark plugs for any signs of fouling, wear, or damage. If needed, clean or replace the spark plugs according to the manufacturer's specifications. 6. Fuses: Inspect the fuses to see if any have blown. Replace any blown fuses with the appropriate type and rating. 7. Immobilizer system: If your Ducati X Diavel is equipped with an immobilizer system, ensure that the key you are using is programmed correctly and recognized by the system. Consult your owner's manual for specific instructions on the immobilizer system. If the issue persists after these steps, it is recommended to consult a professional Ducati technician or authorized Ducati service center. They will have the expertise and specialized diagnostic equipment to diagnose and resolve the problem with your 2016 Ducati X Diavel.

Ducati X diavel doesn't want to start it only cranks the engine please help

Go back to basics to figure this out. An engine needs 3 things to start and run. Air, Fuel and Spark. Remove any one of these and it won't start. Try this. What EXACTLY does it do when you press the start button -Nothing at all or a slow sluggish crank is most likely a flat or bad battery issue. Charge or replace the battery. Cranking at normal speed but not trying to start is possibly a spark supply issue. Test for spark at the plugs and work through the ignition from there. Cranking, coughing and trying but won't idle is commonly a fuel supply issue. Check you actually have fuel in the tank. Yes, I've made that mistake! I've also forgotten to open the fuel valve. Check you are getting fuel to the cylinders. A way to do this is by removing 1 plug wire and cranking the engine for 1 to 2 seconds. Remove the spark plug on that side and sniff it. A working set up and it'll smell of fuel. Refit the plug and the wire and repeat this for the other cylinder. From there work backwards through the fuel system checking the injector, fuel pump and the fuel pipe lines.
