More information would be helpful. When it "shuts off", does it first run rough for a few seconds, miss, run unevenly or just plain DIE (like pulling the plug on an electrical unit?) Don't take offense, but are you sure there's enough gas in the tank? Did you forget to turn on the gas flow? Probably neither, but those are the first things. If those don't apply, then it could be one or more of several problems. Gas line, gas filter, dirty or inadequate gas flow to the carb, fouled plug, faulty plug wire - a whole bunch of stuff. A mechanical pump runs when the engine is turning, an electric pump will run as soon as the key is turned and create pressure all the time. It would have to be an in tank electric pump or it will burn out. Electric pumps are cooled an lubricated by the fuel passing through it. If it is a carbureted engine, you are pressurizing the carb bowl. If injected, it may already have a fuel return. Check the mechanical pump for a torn diaphragm, they are easy to change. ..

My first thought was that it has a diaphragm carburetor and the membrane was punctured or split. This is a combo unit. Confirm the disc is playable. The problem may not be in the machine. Check that the power plug is firmly inserted. I have provided links to manuals for the machine.
