How to Put Videos, Dvds, Movies, and Live Tv Shows...

The advent of the iPod Video spurred an explosion of ways to put video on the device. Generally, the options fall into 'easy' and 'hard' categories. Generally the most involved steps are in the process of encoding the video. Once a suitable video is encoded, it's necessary to transfer the file onto the iPod itself, a task which usually falls to iTuns.
Steps
1. There are two initial options when looking to transfer a DVD or TV Show onto the iPod. You can use software, like ffMpegX, or Handbrake, to convert the video, or you can use hardware, like the Neuros Mpeg-4 Recorder 2 or the iLuv. The first step is to decide which of these options is right for you. This site already contains pages dealing with software solutions, so here I will assume you've chosen to use hardware.
2. The first step with hardware is to choose your video source. Both the iLuv and Neuros Mpeg-4 Recorder 2 take analog input. This means that you connect them directly to the red, yellow and white connectors on your TV, DVD player, cable box, camcorder, etc. Decide what you want to record and find the 'Video Out' connectors.
3. Attach the recording device to the video source. This means connecting the 'Video Out' plugs to the 'Video In' plug on the recording device.
4. The recording device may have a 'Video Out' plug also. You should connect this to a 'Video In' plug on your TV. This will allow you to see what you're doing - the On-Screen menus won't show up otherwise.
5. At this point, you should have the video recorder connected to the TV, and the DVD player or cable box connected to the video recorder. Get the device ready to record.
6. If you are using the Neuros Recorder 2, you simply need to navigate the menu using the remote. When you see the menu, hit the red record button. Next, hit the menu button, which looks like two rectangular windows overlapping. It will bring up the quality selection screen. Choose 320x240 (QVGA) Fine or Superfine. If you are using the iLuv, connect it to your iPod, it records directly.
7. Now, hit the record button (again) and sit back and relax, or go kill some time elsewhere. When the recording is done, hit stop.
8. If you are using the iLuv, you are done. If you are using the Neuros Mpeg-4 Recorder 2, you need to take the memory card you used with the R2, and place it into a card reader, connected to your PC.
9. Copy the file from the memory card to your hard drive. (for example, on Windows you might copy it to My Movies or My Documents.) The memory card will probably show up as an "external drive", on Windows it will pop up as something like "H:/" under My Computer, while on Mac it should appear on the desktop.
10. Once you copy the file to the hard drive, start iTunes. It should detect the movie file. If not, use the iTunes menu to import the video to iTunes.
11. Connect your iPod and use the iTunes to sync the device. This will put the new video on your iPod. Congratulations! That's all there is to it.
Tips
1. Make sure you have a big enough memory card to hold an entire show or movie. 512 is recommended, and you'll probably need at least 1GB to hold an entire film.
2. Try to connect directly to your video source. If you are recording from a DVD, connect the recorder to your DVD player, not the TV. This will make sure the quality is as high as possible.
Warnings
1. It is not legal to share movies you create this way over the internet. Likewise, it is not legal to use commercial movies you download from other people over the internet. Please be careful of copyright issues.
