Check engine light and it is slow in speeding up. Please help

My check engine light kept coming on, but I could not find out what the problem was. Now the display showing what gear I am in keeps flasing while I drive. It has now started to take awhile to speed up, as if the car was stuck between Neutral and Drive. help please!!

I have this same problem as well. It's not always, but it happens at the WRONG times, like when I REALLY need to go! If this were to happen on the highway, we might have a REAL problem!!!

mine does is periodically. It takes a while to speed up to the first shift, even though it is an automatic and then it is fine.....once it gets into that second gear it drives normal. I had the transmission fluid checked and they said I had plenty in there....could it be my serpentine belt?

Did you ever figure out what it was? When my check engine light came on (mind you I have all those same problems, RPM's, rough driving, and flashing drive light) there were two problems. It stated that there were multiple random misfires and there was something wrong with the TPS sensor. My husband is a mechanic and his boss suggested I get a new sensor. Problem is you can't with this model, you have to get an entire throttle body. Got that, my husband just put it in and that didn't fix it. Can you let me know what you did? (email at [email protected] please)

The check engine light kept coming on so I've had the mass air flow sensor fixed and air con checked. No more check engine light but still looses power and stalls.

I had the same problem. The first thing that came up when they scanned my car was that I needed a new throttle body. Got that. That got rid of my car riding rough. Then they scanned it again for the flashing light. What came up was transmission range sensor. Costs about 45 bucks and my car has been driving like a dream for almost a couple days now :) I only got it on Wednesday but so far so good!

I have the same problem. ALTHOUGH this will not Solve your problem, it will make things easier. It is apparently a transmission sensor error. It ONLY comes on when you try to go in reverse. I have been driving my car for 4 months now and I don't go in reverse anymore and the problem stopped. of course its hard, I only park in places I can pull out of, or park uphill so I can neutral backwards. Its a hassle but hey I'm a student with no money to fix this ****.

Also, When the light goes on, if you put the car in drive, it usually gets stuck in one gear and cant shift properly. making your engine sound weird. to fix this, you have to find a spot that's uphill. Park on an incline where the front of your car is pointing up. turn off the engine, turn it back on again and it should shift fine now. the engine light will go away in like a day or two after this. and wont come back on unless you go in reverse.

p.s. If you ever feel the need to go in reverse, you should probably put the car in neutral and try pushing it first to see if that works.

Service soon light on, how do I reset

I purchased a hand held Code Reader at WalMart for around $100.00. The reason your Check Engine light is coming on is that you need to "Check your Engine!" If you have a service manual it will tell you what the codes mean. I had Check Engine Light on for months because I had a high idle speed of over 2,000 RPM. I kept digging on the Saturn Forum website because I could figure out what was causing the high idle. Finally after about 6 months of the annoying Check Engine Light coming on I finally figured out that I had a blown intake manifold gasket. I changed the damn thing and now the light stays off! Imagine that! The Code Reader will also reset you engine so the "Check Engine Light doesn't come back on until the computer senses that there is still a problem.
