I could be way off here but...
Most Ford Explorer's and Expedition's and the like DO NOT have a dipstick for the transmission. Nor do they have a drain plug.
Ford decided that too many people were destroying their transmissions by adding too much fluid and additives. So, from at least 2002, the owner has to take the vehicle to a Ford dealer or a transmission shop for service. For what its worth, the fluid and the transmission's have been engineered to be service free for 100k to 150k. Hope this helps.

How do you put transmission fluid in a 2001 Ford Excursion

first read your owners manual so you know exactly what type of transmission fluid and how to read the dipstick. Make sure you know the difference between the oil dipstick and the transmission dipstick. Buy a long narrow funnel at the parts store where you buy the fluid. It will have to fit into the transmission dipstick tube. Add fluid through the transmission dipstick tube. This is not something that must be done often, unless you have a serious leak somewhere. You are at 10 years, if your tranny is slipping, be prepared to get it rebuilt.

I need to check the ATF, and need to know how/where to refill if it is low. I have the '04 Kia Optima LX. Help appreciated greatly. Thanks.

Run the car long enough to fully warm up both the engine and the transmission.

Remove the transmission fluid dipstick, dry it off with a rag, paper towel or napkin. Wait a little (maybe o seconds) for the fluid that was on the tip of the stick as you removed it, and which might have been deposited on the inside walls of the tube the stick goes into to seep back down into the transmission. While you have the stick out and dry, familiarize yourself with the markings on it.

Put the dipstick into the tube, and fully seat it; make sure it is all the way in the dipstick tube.

Pull the stick out, and read the level of the fluid on it.

If transmission fluid is required, pour it into the tube the dipstick goes in.

I do not have the owner's manual and need to know how to fill the ATF resorvoir.

ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) is added to the transmission through the dipstick tube. First make sure that you are checking the fluid level correctly:

Start the engine and let the engine warm up for a minute or two.
Then pull the dipstick from the ATF dipstick tube and wipe it clean; reinsert it back into the tube, paying close attention that you are inserting it all the way down until the tube is sealed again.
Then remove the dipstick and check the level of fluid on the dipstick, with attention to the fluid level markings on the dipstick.
Do this several different times to make sure you are getting accurate readings, as some transmissions make it difficult to REMOVE fluid, in case of overfilling.
If you DO add any, add just a little at a time, and permit time for the fluid to settle, so you can get accurate readings of the dipstick fluid level.
Constantly recheck to make sure you do not overfill your transmission.

Hope this helps.

Cannot find the transmission fluid port to add fluid.

Hi Clark,

The Transmission Fluid goes in the tube that houses the transmission fluid level dipstick.

I know, looking at the tube, it sounds insane. A long narrow funnel made specifically for this purpose is sold at auto parts stores.

Best regards,
Mike

How do i add transmission fluid to my 1996 camry?

If you have a dipstick under your hood for the tranny fluid, then fill it in there slowly... if not, you'll need to fill it through the filler plug that will be on the side of the transmission just above the halfway point

Where is the fill plug you remove to add transmission fluid to a 6 cylinder automatic transmission

From what I know... there isnt a "plug" for the transmission fluid. You use the transmission dipstick to add fluid into the tube. Simply place the opening of the container of fluid against the dipstick and pour slowly.. the fluid should run down the dipstick into the tube. good luck
