Question about 1987 Ford Merkur XR4Ti

1 Answer

Windshield Good friend has an '87 RXTi, and is missing both side windshield mouldings (?) that attach from the bottom louvered tray, to the sides of the windshield. He says they are about 4 inches long, squared off at the bottom, and are about 2" wide at the bottom, and taper up to 1" at the top. Since I don't own this car, I am only repeating what he told us. This has to be the kindest person we have met, and he has done so much for us, that when we heard this is what his car is missing, I immediately made it my mission to try to find these parts for him. I can't repay him monetarily for all his kindness, but know that this would not only surprise him, but be such a great gift, that he would truly appreciate it. Any help or ideas out there????

1998 GRAND CHEROKEE BLOWS ON DEFROST ALONE

Hi I have a 2002 JGC ltd and it is most likely your dampeners or louvers located behind your temp controls (inside the dash) for driver and passenger sides that control the direction of air flow from air outside in, circulation, heat to windshield, centre and or to floor etc. I had a friend that had heat only to the passenger side and cold air blowing to driver side. He took it in and they replaced stuck dampeners and it was not cheap. Sounds like the tipical problem with heaters.

Driver windshield whipers dont work miss side of car by 6 in

Check the mounting bolts for the wiper motor. Two may be missing. If the motor shifts or rotates, it throws off the geometry of the mechanism.

Hi I need to locate the vin number on a 1997 kia sportage. I cannot locate it on the chassis

The vin number should be located on the driverside at the bottom of the windshield. Looking from the outside of the car on the driverside you should see it through the windshield. Hope this will help you.

Drivers side wiper

If it is only the driver's side that doesn't work, it is a mechanical problem. There is one motor that operates both blades, so if one is working, it's not the motor or fuse. The two most common problems would be a stripped out gear where the wiper arm attaches at the bottom of the windshield, or a detached linkage. There is a metal bar running under the cowl, and it has pins that attach it to each wiper. See if these are loose. Hope this helps :)

Windshield wipers wont turn but the wiper motor runs

you likely broke the plastic gear inside the wiper motor by turning wiper on when wipers were frozen to glass. you will have to replace the motor.
you can buy motor on Ebay cheap.
you have to remove screen at bottom of windshield for access. remove side windshield mouldings to be abe to get screen off.
watch very, very carefully how you get wiper linkage out or you will have a hard time getting it back in.

Windshield wipers

most of these windshield wiper motors are located right below the windsheld and above hood. you probably have to undo the louvers where the windshield wiper arms are located and it sits in front of the driver side not too bad to swap yourself part itself is about $60 w/old motor turned in
