1996 cherokee turn signals inoperative - Cherokee Jeep Cars & Trucks

    The left turn signal does not work replaced the front lights and it still does not work. What's the problem?

Lamp sockets on Cherokee's, including modern Grand Cherokee's tend to loose their contact abilities, and they have to be replaced. But, having all gone sounds more like the relay.

Check your fuses, should be one under the dash, one under the hood and then if not those try your flasher located under the pass side dash.

Fuse possible: It is kind of hard to see when you are looking at the fuse box by leaning in from the outside of the car. To see the fuse you actually have to lean way in and have your head almost on the brake pedal, before you can see it. Why they designed it at the very end of the fuse box, where it is hidden by the plastic,I have no idea.

No turning signals


Turn Signal Lamps
The turn signal lamps are made up of the front park/turn signal lamps and rear turn signal lamps. The front turn signal lamps flash with the rear turn signal lamps when a turn is initiated using the turn signal/multifunction lever. The turn signals will operate only with the ignition switch in the RUN position and will not operate during hazard flasher operation.
When the ignition is turned to the RUN position, battery voltage is supplied to the TURN SIGNAL, CORN LPS Fuse. Battery voltage is then applied through the TURN SIGNAL, CORN LPS fuse circuit to the hazard warning switch. The hazard switch supplies a turn signal flasher signal to the turn signal switch. With the turn signal switch in the LH or RH position the corresponding turn signal indicator, rear turn signal, and front turn signal receive the turn signal switch signal and will flash. The front turn signals receive the turn signal switch signal from the turn signal switch via the body control module (BCM) . The front turn lamps are grounded at G101. The rear turn lamps are grounded at G301 and G302.
Turn Signal Lamps and/or Indicators Inoperative

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Place the turn signal switch in the LH and RH on position.
Do the turn signals operate properly?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections yes

Are all of the turn signal lamps and indicators inoperative?
Go to Step 5 yes

Are only the turn signal indicators inoperative?

Check the TURN SIGNALS CORN LPS fuse for an open.
Is the TURN SIGNALS CORN LPS fuse open?

  1. Disconnect the hazard switch.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the ignition positive 1 voltage circuit of the hazard switch and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the ignition 1 positive supply voltage circuit of the hazard switch and the ground circuit of the hazard switch .
Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Install a fused jumper between the ignition 1 positive voltage circuit of the hazard switch and the turn signal flasher signal circuit of the hazard switch.
  2. Place the turn signal switch in the RH on position and the LH on position.

  2. Connect a test lamp between ground and the front turn signal switch signal circuit of the BCM.

Test for an open or for a high resistance in the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative front turn signal lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

  2. Disconnect the inoperative rear turn signal lamp.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative turn signal lamp and a good ground.

My 1996 jeep grand cherokee is maKing a buzzing noise by the fuse box and only goes away when I turn my hazards or turning signal on


There's a relay/flasher that sounds like it may be dying. There are actually two of these in your Cherokee - round plug piece about an inch tall that plugs into your fuse block.

The good news these are cheap (less than $10 online). I'd try replacing the turn signal flasher with a new one and see if the noise goes away.

Lefthand turn signal inoperative intermittently


you have a bad turn signal switch many auto parts stores stock this part as it is a common problem for jeeps.

Left turn signal inop


Are any of the lamps (bulbs) out in that side of the car? Remember that the rear turn signals share a filament with the brake lamps.

the circle three prong fuse is the turnsignal flasher and that very well could be the problem. does the signals come on and then not flash or does the signals not come on at all?

Blower motor inop


if it only works on hi...the resister is bad on regular ac heater systems or on auto temp control systems the powern module is bad.....if it is totally inop then likely a fuse or bad motor
