Question about 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

1 Answer

No spark Used vehicle quit running due to no spark.  Original wiring harness was ruined, apparently by underhood fire, and home made replacement looks like it connected all components correctly.  Could find no defect in coil, signal pickup at distributor, running resistor or universal type ignition switch.  Module was working properly according to parts manager of auto store with electronic testing equipment.

You probably have a mis-fire. One of the cylinders has either a bad spark plug or faulty coil. This should get looked at as soon as possible before it ruins the catalytic converter. Someone with a code scanner can at least narrow down where the mis-fire is.

97 Buick lesaber runs good all sudden dies wont run Windows won't go up or down?

When it suddenly dies an wont run , is this a permanent situation or will it start an run again at a later time ? Do the windows not working only happen when it dies or is this all the time regardless of vehicle suddenly dying ? When it dies you have to find out what is missing Fuel , spark etc.. Find this out an test the appropriate system ! Check all wiring harnesses underhood for proper routing an no bare wires touching ground ! An do a wiggle test on the wiring harness with it running or with someone cranking over the engine to see if it acts up or starts ! How long does it run before dying ?

You've done a great job of trouble shooting thus far. I would certainly suspect the injector after all of that. But, I didn't see anything about you replacing the spark plug itself. I would try that first as a crack in the insulator (even hairline) will cause mis-fires. If the spark plug doesn't fix the mis-fire, it cold be caused by a bad fuel injector, bad signal (like a loose harness or bad wire) to the fuel injector, or a leak or valve issue on that cylinder.

My 2002 Grand Prix burst into flames, no apparent reason. Any advice or recourse?

take a look at this hope it helps. engine recalled about fires:

Recall Reason ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Recall Date MAR 12, 2008 Model Affected GRAND PRIX Potential Units Affected 207542
Recall Summary GM IS RECALLING 207,542 MY 1997-2003 BUICK REGAL AND PONTIAC GRAND PRIX VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.8L SUPERCHARGED V-6 ENGINE. THESE VEHICLES HAVE HIGHER FRONT ROCKER COVER GASKET TEMPERATURES, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR EARLIER DEGRADATION OF THE FRONT ROCKER COVER GASKET AND EVENTUAL OIL SEEPAGE.

Consequence CERTAIN UNDERHOOD FIRES MAY BE CAUSED BY DROPS OF ENGINE OIL, FROM SEEPAGE OR SPILLAGE, BEING DEPOSITED ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD THROUGH HARD BRAKING. IF THE MANIFOLD IS HOT ENOUGH AND THE OIL RUNS BELOW THE HEAT SHIELD, IT MAY IGNITE INTO A SMALL FLAME AND, IN SOME INSTANCES, THE FIRE MAY SPREAD TO THE PLASTIC SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL AND BEYOND.

Remedy DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW FRONT (LEFT) ROCKER COVER GASKET WITH AN IMPROVED DESIGN FROM THE ORIGINAL GASKET AND REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL WITH NEW RETAINERS. DUE TO PARTS AVAILABILITY, OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTERS WILL BE MAILED IN TWO PHASES. THE CUSTOMER LETTERS FOR THE 1997-2000 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES WILL BE MAILED ON APRIL 28, 2008. GM WILL ADVISE AS TO WHEN THE OWNER LETTERS FOR THE 2001-2003 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES WILL BE MAILED. UNTIL SUFFICIENT PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, GM STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT OWNERS OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS (1) THEY STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT OWNERS DO NOT PARK THEIR VEHICLE IN A GARAGE, CAR PORT, OR OTHER STRUCTURE; (2) IF OWNERS NOTICE A BURNING ODOR, THEY SHOULD HAVE THEIR DEALER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGE; (3) USE PREMIUM FUEL (91 OCTANE OR HIGHER) IN THE VEHICLE AS RECOMMENDED IN THE VEHICLE'S OWNER MANUAL. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080 OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668, OR THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE AT HTTP://WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM .

Trying to find wiring harness for the headlights. They melted.

try the dealer they should have just the plugs with wires and you will have to connect them to the original wires or you can look on web at parts stores see if they have them you can get the factory harness but would have to replace the entire underhood harness for the headlites and will melt again

The destributor cap was loose, engine was running ruff, replaced cap, tuck running fine. After 100 miles it is running ruff again and check engine light is on. I found a hose around the destrutor cap,...

When's the last time you replaced the spark plug wires? Try that for you mis-fire. As for the vacuum hose, there should be a routing diagram somewhere on the hood or engine compartment somewhere. Trace it out and find where it should go. Oh BTW, bad spark plug wires can ruin a distributor cap.

Mercedes c200 elegance 1996 model mis-firing on cylinders 1-4

I beleive your firing order is 1 3 4 2. 1 and 4 are companion cylinders-meaning the piston is up or down at the same time i.e. compression and exhaust stroke both pistons are up and even on the exhaust stroke the ignition fires in order to burn unburnt fuel/ h ve you checked your trigger. There is a good coil testing tool that is placed over the coil and has a magnetic pickup that allows you to see if the coil is being triggered-just because you have power doesn't mean that you will have spark. I would replace your ignition wires and look at your wiring harness very carefully- if it is very brittle and you see bare wires exposed that is your most likley problem because the trigger is working for 1 and 3 and has the crank senser input for all for spark plugs and the cam senser is used for ignition advance and your fuel injection system. try wiggling your harness and see if your coils start to work. wireharnesses are a major problem on mercedes benz vehicles of that era. I hope I have been helpful

The "speed sensor" is throwing way too much fuel through the injectors and flooding the cylinders, new spark plugs would burn longer, but still die after a while, so that makes sense... but I think the problem might go a bit deeper into the engine management system than that. You say it does this at a specific temperature, so a loose connection somewhere is possible inside the EMS, something that breaks a sensor connection at that temperature, due to expansion and contraction of metal parts. Try looking for evidence of that.
