Question about 1998 GMC Sierra

Engine will start and rough idle but dies when either the brakes are applied or the lights are turned on!

Was driving along and the truck died instantly, but still had dash lights. thought it might be fuel pump at first, but after letting the truck cool a bit, it started and idled rough then I noticed when trying to limp it home everytime I applied the brakes or turn on the headlights, it would die. tried disconnecting the battery to clear codes, but no luck same problem. Starts everytime but idle's rough ( low RPM'S less than 500) any suggestions?

Have you checked out your fuel filter? I had my 2003 denali do the same type of problem and it turned out to be a very dirty fuel filter.

What would cause engine yo die at a stop light and not start again. The engine almost turns over but doesnt.

engines stopping at lights can sometimes be attributed to a vacuum leak in the brake booster
test by idling the engine with the hand brake on and no foot brake then apply the foot brake and if the engine dies then it is the brake booster
hard to restart may be the vacuum leak if you still have your foot on the brake.

Engine die

system too lean at idle suggests that you have a vacuum leak in system. Check vacuum hoses, under dash controls and the vacuum hose to the transmission. check brake booster for leaks.

Gauges stop working, engine won't idle

See the YouTube video on how to repair broken solder joints on your instrument cluster connector. This takes about an hour and solves a number of intermittent problems. I think it may be under "no start" problems.

My 95 3L Lebaron Dies when the car is stopped. It starts then dies immediately, after many cranks with lots a gas it will run. Only happens when cold.

I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off. My info says 48 psi.

I have a 1997 Ford Escort Wagon and I don't have a problem while I am driving, but when I slow up to a stop. The motor will come to a rough idle when I stop and sometimes the motor will die. I can restart...

try this test
place in neutral with the park brake on
start the engine if it idles alright put your foot on the brake
if it falters or plays up ,it is a vacuum leak in the brake booster
replace the booster

Rough idle no check engine light on starting to stall when making turns at low speed like in the drive thru radio lights flicker

did not specify rpm, but sounds likely to be a idle control valve, it adjust engine rpm when a demand or load is apply like turning your wheel, so the engine dont die. try cleaning it, if not enougth carbon build up found in it, replace valve.

91 Dodge ram 50 ignition problem, rough idle in drive, dies when braking

my ram 50 starts just like any other vehicle, (no light switch pulling whatso ever), it sounds like somebody haas rewired something wrong or you have a loose connection and when you hit a large enough bump it cuts your power. Start it up and find a speed bump somewhere and drive over it enough to give your truck a jolt and see if it dies.
