There should be a switch to bright and dim them. it also controls a/c panel. ash tray, radio, glove box. Pink/Black wire should have 12 V coming out of headlight switch to the illumniation switch. If not, fuse may be bad.

2003 Pontiac Vibe no tail lights, brake lights and turn signals work just fine. The dimmer switch does not dim the dash lights but does work the dome just fineand the lights for the Heat/AC are off.

The tail lights work off the headlight switch, and there is a fuse for the tail lights. Make sure the fuse is good, first, a 15 amp (blue) fuse in the instrument panel fuse block. Then, you might have a bad headlight switch.
So you DO have dash lights, they just don't dim from the dimmer switch? In the wiring diagram, there is a green wire from a "tail light relay" (in the "Junction Block-Right Instrument Panel") that carries power to all the exterior lamps, as well as having a splice to the Instrument Panel Cluster (illum. bulbs), and to the lamp dimmer, and to the radio bulb.
To do any further testing, you would need a voltmeter or a test light, so you could chase down this power loss. Good luck.

2000 Lexus LS400 Instrument panel fuse

It's more likely a fuse is blown, the tail lights are on the same fuse as the dash illumination, check the tail lights if they are not working replace the fuse marked 'tail' in the fuse panel on the inside at the left side of the dash under the cover. At the same time check the 'gauge' fuse', there is a fuse location diagram on the cover.

Brake lights dont work

Check for blown fuse, if the fuse is blown check the trailer wiring at the back for any bare wires.

2005 Civic Temp Control & center dash lights not working -blower & all vent settings are functional ,I have checked all fuses under column & underhood with NO blown fuses

Your instrument cluster and console lights are protected by fuse #2 (15 Amp) in the underhood fuse and relay box. They actually get power from the tail lamp relay. If the tail lamps are working, the relay and the fuse is not your problem. The brightness of these lights are controlled by the Multiplex Control Unit and theCPU built into the instrument gauge cluster. The dimmer circuits are actually integral with the instrument cluster. If the tail lights are working and the lighting in the instrument cluster is working, then the problem is either a CPU failure in the instrument cluster or an open circuit between the instrument cluster and the center console lights. The console lights themselves should have power all the time that the tail lights are turned on. The CPU in the instrument cluster provides ground for them to function. The wiring is a little different depending on which model you have and how it is equipped (LX, DX, EX, LX with side curtain airbags, etc.) however, the function is the same.

I highly recommend scanning your computer network for fault codes before spending a lot of time trying to perform electrical diagnosis. There may be a fault code present that will lead directly to the cause.

Tail lights and instrument panel lights stopped working, no apparent fuse blown

If your absolutely positive fuse is not blown, I'd replace headlight switch. H/L switch powers dash lights and tail lights.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus Wagon. tail light and instrument panel

i have a 2000 focus wagon and had the same problem. It's not the fuse! It's the wiring harness at the point where it leaves the body and goes into the hatch. When the hatch is opened and closed repeatedly after years the wires will break with constant bending. I had to solder together 7 wires and the problem was solved. It's a lot cheaper than replacing the entire wiring harness.

My instrument panel on 1987 300ZX stopped working after a stereo was installed. It lights up but has nothing on the display and to make it worse the defrost doesn't turn off. Also the dome light stopped...

Its the connection to the power supply module that is connected to the intrument panel. Its about the size of a cigar box and is silver and is left of the stereo. you will need to remove the panel under the steering colum to access it. wiggle the harness that goes from the inatrument panel to this power supply module until you instrument panel works again. i don't have a permanent soution except to buy a new panel. I am dealing with the same problem.

Tail lights and instrument panel lights dont work

The Dash and Tail lights connect to the same fuse in most cars. if the fuse is okay, check to make sure the tail lights and/or dash lights are properly grounded. all bulbs could be blown...but highly unlikely.
