Question about 2000 Chevrolet Tracker

Car dies spontaneously

My 2000 Chevy tracker dies spontaneously when idle at a stop light, drive through, etc. I let it rest for about 5 minutes then no problem it starts right up and drives only to do the same thing - maybe within days or hours later.

The tracker has been in repair more than a dozen times. The engine reading reads "nothing wrong with the engine." I've change just about everything the repair shops can think of, but still the problem still exists. Amongst the items of repair included the main computer brain of the car which was very costly and yet the problem still exists. Otherwise the car is in good condition, but I can't rely on a car that may or may not die when carpooling to work or school activities.

Recently, the focus has been on the gas area/process of the car. The gas tank was found clean of debris and the filter and fuel pump was changed. The problem still exists after this change as well. Can you please help me find a solution....money's very tight, but I need my car. Your help will be so much appreciated!

I have almost the same problem but my tracker dies when idling with the AC on. If the car is idling in any gear with the AC on for more then 5 to 7 minutes, it will all the sudden sputter & die. If I let the cat sit for about 5 minutes and turn off the AC, I can start the cat up just fine. If I try to crank it with the AC on, it will sputter & backfire but never turnover. It has 125K miles and all periodic maint & fluid/filter changes have been completed as recommended. Any suggestions would be great!

My vehicle will also die and then after about 10 minutes start again. I got a deal on the car, but the owner did tell me it probably needs a new crankshaft sensor. Does this sound accurate?

    Thanks,

    Paul.

I have 2001 Chevy Tracker that shares some of these problems; however, the sputter and dying only occurs after it gets warmed up and then only at idle/ while taking off in 1st gear. What's the deal?

I had one of these problem childs in my shop after hours of no problem . finnaly it died at the repair shop this problem was related directly to heat and with a scann tool i could see erratic crank reference . let it sit for 5 or so min it fired right back up . this is the ticket when the problem happens lay on the gas while turning it over if you hear it poping out the intake or out out the exhaust like spark is at the wrong time you have your answer. on these motors the injector pulse is responsibility of cam sensor and spark is the cranksensors duo.

This is caused by one of the things you already replaced , including the A/C compressor and power steering pump. Or it could be from a wrong size or over stretched belt.

1999 Chevrolet Tracker low idle problem when cold

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Runs fine at startup, after warming up it dies at low speed 5-10

Fuel pump? That is odd, it seems there is no issue with getting fuel. I would check the idle and the choke settings. Try tweaking those a bit.

Flickering lights on 2001 Chevy tracker

I had similar problems, with dash board lights and headlights flickering, and the problem was a dying alternator. After I changed it, everything got back in normal. Also, a bad alternator eventually will kill your car's battery, too. I hope this will help you.

2000 beetle will die at random times, and will not start for about 15 minutes!

this can be caused by a bad fuel filter or dirty injectors. try a bottle of fuel injector or fuel system cleaner in a tank of gas. i suggest lucas products which can be found at any parts store.
