Boyfriend has a 2003 Mini Coop S. Tried to start it up yesterday and it won't turn over. It cranks up, but it either seems clogged, or no flow of gas going thru(fuel pump)? Please advise. Mahalo

You need to trace the problems these ways :
- Check power on fuel pump terminal ( it should has 12 volts DC while you power on the ignition key < use a DC voltmeter to do this>)
If there is power but your fuel pump is not work, you need to replace the pump. If there is no power on fuel pump terminal , trace the cable and relay for malfunction and get them fixed.

- If your pump work, no gass output clean your fuel filter or replace it with new one.

The poor performance of the car makes these faults to come up and undermine the working of the engine thereby resulting in the engine not firing.

So to start off we need to check from the fuel tank. Check if the fuel contains impurities and specially water. If so this can come up with the pumping when the tank gets empty and produce misfiring, splutter and jerks. So a check on the fuel filter will confirm this as it will be seen, if so remove and clean tank and change the filter. We then come to the fuel pump/carburetor as the fuel mixing and pressure is determined in this section. You need to have the pump calibrated if the pressure at the injector is low.

Then we must check with the electrics. The spark intensity is most important .Remove all plugs to check gap and condition of plugs. The black plug indication will confirm that the performance is bad whereas a fully fired plug without deposits must be the ideal view. Check the HT coil and the HT wires, if the intensity is bad this must be swapped and checked to confirm. DO NOT CHANGE any part without a confirmation by trying with a replacement from another vehicle or friend. Finally the LT trigger to the coils must be checked be it from the platinum points or an electronic ignition unit. The voltage of the trigger must be high to give the best HT output.

Now use a strobe to check the Timing on the engine. Adjust if needed to see the TOP DEAD CENTER-TDC- mark. If there is valve noise make sure that the tappets are set properly so that the valves seat firmly for the best compression. Also check compression of engine if there is imbalance on the engine or reduced power.

Wont start 2003 bmw 330xi

Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals
with sandpaper until you see shiny metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Also check the battery in you key as the immobiliser may not be reading it.

Car won't start 2003 Dodge Stratus sxt coupe cranks but won't start what could b the problem? I tried spraying starting fluid in the air system but it still won't start!

i would check and see if spark pluges are firing. you can take one out and plug into spark plug wire then let the bottom of the plug sit on engine and get someone to try to start while you look at the plug to see if there is any fire. if you have no fire or fuel it would be the crankshaft sencer. it could be the timing belt but the motor would sound different turning over then it used to.

2003 lexus es300 won't start... radio lights and windows work. Tried a jump start, still doesnt work...

Are you saying the engine cranks but won't start, or the engine won't crank ?
If the engine does not crank, you would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch as well as the ground connections.

2003 chevy silverado occasionally runs rough, now won't start

Could be the crank sensor or something in the wiring. Each cylinder has its own coil, so it would be something affecting more than one cyl.
If it won't start at all now, you will have to figure out if it is a lack of fuel to the injectors or lack of spark to the plugs, or something else.
Are you saying the check engine light does not come on when you turn the key on, or just not when it is running rough ?

1997 gmc sierra 3500 won't start

When you turn the ignition to start, do you hear the starter turning and the solenoid engaging the flywheel ? test your starter by jumping it and see if the engine turns over. If this works, then you might consider in checking fuel pressure. Do you have any codes in your ECM ?

Our 2003 Saturn L200 turns over, but won't start...like it's not getting gas. This just started happening and only after we've already driven it that day. The first time it happened was...

Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. If good, suspect crankshaft position sensor--when it fails to start, check for sparks by pulling an ignition wire off the coils and holding it close to the coil with an insulated tool while someone cranks the engine. If no sparks, replace the sensor.
