Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy
The aux is for the cd player, there is no wire in the back for an aux. But you can buy an adapter that splices into the back which allows you to use the stereo to control your ipod. It only works because you could have a 6 cd changer stock, so it uses those controls.

I, too, have the same stereo in my 1999 GMC Sonoma.
GMC decided it would be a great idea one day to add the Aux button just to confuse us, the poor consumer. After some research, I found that there is no connection on the back of my radio. They decided to add that as a "future option". Another reason is that they use the same faceplate for multiple radios. Some have auxillary options with others do not.
My suggestion would be to buy a wireless FM transmitter for your Ipod (Itrip) or invest in a good stereo deck (What I did) and have it bought and installed for $150.00. If you find the right one, you will have an Aux jack on the front for your Ipod.
Hope this helps!
