Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, do a visual inspection with particular attention to:

  • the swivel point of the door mirror and its base;
  • often the movable portion has a locking ball with spring that sits on notches on the fixed/bas portion. These determines the lock and folded positions;
If nothing is cracked or broken, then presumably it is just the lock and very much repairable. It would be requiring more time and attention removing and dis-assembling the door mirror than the actual repairs itself.

If all else fails, you may be better off seeking an on-site qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

I would guess the problem would be located with the drivers door harness. All of these items are controlled from the same place, remove door panel and check harness connectors for tightness and water damage.

How do you remove interior door handle form 1993 Ford Tercer The window won't roll up and I can't get the handle off to get the panel off to get to the window tract

It's easy!

  1. Remove triangle-shaped plastic cover Fwd of door window - gently pry it off

  2. Remove screw from the plastic cover behind door open lever

  3. Remove door lock plunger. (unscrew)

  4. Remove screws down inside the door pull hand-hold area

  5. Look for other phillips screws - sometimes around the lower 1/2

  6. Pry hidden plastic hold down fasteners from around the edge - pull the panel away from the door and where you see it 'stuck' to the door, slide a pry tool, a stiff putty knife works well, up in that area and pop the fastener off.

  7. Lift door liner enough to get to the mirror power connector and unplug.

  8. For some model years, with door panel loose, you can access the bolts / screws that hold the interior trim piece in place and remove.

  9. Remove Mylar cover for access to 3 Mirror mount studs, speaker screws, door lock actuators, window motors, etc.

  10. Remove nuts, (hold the mirror up from outside) and remove mirror. (Feed electrical harness through door openings as required to facilitate removal.

  11. Reverse order for installation.

I need to replace the passenger side mirror on my '99 Accord. It has power widows/locks. I have the replacement piece in full, but hesitate to begin removing the door panel w/o some knowledgeable advice....

you have to remove the door panel and upholestry as well as the side shield blocking the bolts to the mirror.

1.)remove door upholestry by unscrewing the screws,
  • under a hide cap by the door handle,
  • under the door opening lever
  • and some other places Look closely
  • remove the clips by prying the panel back.
  • remove electrical jacks connecting to the switches of the door
2.)remove the side shield blocking the bolts to the mirror

install new mirror.

Replace drivers door due to crash. old door had 3

You have to examine and compare the two doors. I am just guessing but I would bet that it is the power mirror that your new door is lacking.

Just follow the wiring into each door.

1. Power locks wires should run to a region near the latch mechanism.
2. Power Windows wires should run to somewhere in the middle of the door.
3. Power mirror should run almost straight up towards the mirror assembly.

If it is the power mirror assembly you should be able to transplant your old one provided that it is not damaged.

If it is power windows, adapting power windows will be much harder as the new door may or may not have the provisions for mounting the regulator, etc.

If it is power locks you may need to transplant the latch and actuator assembly along with its wiring.

DOOR AJAR LIGHT (bad sensor?)

I'm pretty sure that they are integral to the door lock assembly on that model, would need to replace the whole door lock if that is the case. Best to get the Ford dealer to plug in their computer and check the signals from the door locks to see which one is at fault. Check central locking and power mirror fuses first, if no power to door locks then the door ajar sensors will have no power as well.
