If your thermostsat stays opens all the time then replace it , check it by taking it out ,if it is closed went it is cool then is not stuck open,.if you remove it and it is cracked open then it is stuck open.it should not open until it heats up to about 180 degrees. If your thermostat checks out good then your next thing would be your temp. sensor not working properly..replace your temp. sensor..this sensor is very important because it tells your computer when your car is propery warmed up so that your car / fuel air mixture and your injectors start to operate properly so you get the best fuel economy and clean emmisions...This has nothing to do with your coolant level..
The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.
When the Check Engine light is turned on, the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls and monitors of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.
A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
