Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, do a visual inspection with particular attention to:

  • battery, battery terminal, battery connector;
  • fusible link, the smaller wire other than the battery-starter cable in the + terminal as well as its connection point to the main harness;
  • fuse & relay box, check for loose connections, check/replace busted fuses, reseat (r/r) the relays;
  • check connector going to the ignition switch;
  • check secondary fuse box under the dash or kick panels (if present), check for loose connections.
If all else fails, you may be better off seeking an on-site qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do I fix my gas gauge in my 1989 ford crown Victoria ltd?

Nine times out of ten, it is the sending unit in the tank that is the problem. To check, use a sort jumper wire to ground the gas gauge wire to the frame while watching the gauge needle on the dash, with the key in on position.

Find the gas tank electrical connector by the tank. Pull it apart, and on the harness side of the connector, locate the wire going to the sending unit. I don't know what color it is, but the fuel pump wire is a pink wire with black stripe and there is a black wire for the ground. The other wire should be for the dash gauge's sending unit. Have a helper turn the key to on and watch the gas gauge for any perceptible movement while you use the jumper wire, insert one end into the terminal for the gauge's sending unit wire (this is on the harness side of the connector, not the gas tank side), and touch the other end to the car frame-you are grounding it. If the dash gauge is good, the needle should move a lot, usually will move more than half way, one way or the other. So if it does, you know the dash gauge is good, and the problem is in the sending unit.

If it is the sending unit, it is quite a job to drop the tank, pull it out from under the car, then pull the fuel pump and sending unit out. You might be fighting a lot of rust on an '89-get some penetrating oil. And look for the removal procedure in a repair manual. It's not terribly difficult if you are handy with tools...and like to get dirty. Those hoses on the tank have been stuck on there a long time. Good luck.

Jeep stalls gauges don't work windows and locks and radio don't work

when you state it wouldn't crank, do you mean the starter won't engage or that it just spins over and doesn't start? if no gauges or no starter engagement, then check the battery, battery connections,and the starter for excessive amperage draw. if the starter spins and the engine won't start, then check crankshaft position sensor first. the crank sensor is a more common failure than the distributor or any of the other things you mentioned.

1996 audi a4 quattro seemed out of gas, fueled, now won't turn over but seems to want to

Does the fuel gage read any higher now that you put fuel in it? If so, It was probably out of gas like you suspected. However, running a vehicle out of gas is extremely ******* fuel pumps. If your fuel pump was worn, with a lot of miles, it is probably toast now.

The gas gauge don't work

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action, please do check the fuse. If the fuse is blown, the fuel gauge won't work. If that's the case, please replace it.
If the fuse if good then the problem will be on the fuel float itself. The fuel float is located above the fuel tank. You will need to pull down the fuel tank to gain access to the fuel float. Once replaced, the fuel gauge will work normally again.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Gas gauge has stopped working on 1998 Buick Park avenue, could it be a fuse?

If it was the sending unit, it is accessible through the trunk floor. A problem I have with my Park Ave gas gauge is when I get a dead battery and try to start the car, the needles will twitch and it sends my gas gauge needle to the far right side. This causes it to rotate/fall under the proper gauge are and come up under the rest pin on the left side. When that happens, I have to pull my whole instrument cluster and rotate it around so the needle goes back up to the top.
Check where you needle is the next time you turn the key to run. If its under the little rest pin at the empty position of the gas gauge, then this should be the fix.

1998 Buick Park Ave Speedometer stopped working.

Found the problem with the speedometer on my Buick. When you use the magnet to fix the gas gauge, will can and may affect your speedo. So use the magnet trick on it as well. Appears that the manufacturer didn't think about the needles being able to swing past the magnet they have set up in the gauges. Should have put a stop pin on the gauges.

you need to replace the gas gauge sending unit in the tank. GM has a lot of problems with this.
