Are the upper and lower ball joints pressed in
The ball joints are pressed into the steering knuckles. To remove them requires use of a ball joint press. If you don't have one you can usually rent one from a major auto parts retailer. You'll have to remove the brake calipers, rotors and backing plates. Disconnect the tie rod ends, and remove the upper pinch bolt. The lower joint has a nut that holds it to the axle that must be removed as well. Use a ball joint separator or "pickle fork" tool to separate the lower joint from the axle. Once you have the steering knuckle in hand, remove the snap ring from the bottom of the lower joint. Use the press to push the lower joint out then do the upper. replace the upper joint first using the press then do the lower joint in a similar fashion. Installation is naturally the reverse of removal. One thing to note is that the upper ball joint is located in the axle with a bushing. This bushing is where caster and camber adjustments are made. the factory presets these measurements using a bushing with a tab on it that locates it only one way in the axle. If the vehicle has ever been aligned and caster and camber adjustments were performed, the factory bushing will have been replaced with an aftermarket bushing. These bushings are rotatable and care must be taken to note where they were indexed in the axle. You should probably still get the alignment checked though, as suspension parts will tend to settle, and steering angles will change. Hope this helps.

Hi, I think youll find they are rivetted in,When you buy the new ones they will come with fixing bolts,Grind or chisel the rivets out. All the best.Phil

Approx.$250 in parts & rest is labor. Probably 3 to 4 hrs labor at most, even at 5 hrs labor, that's $100/hr labor. It must include alignment after the repairs, correct? Not sure what your going rate for labor is in your area. Probably wouldn't hurt to call around for a second opinion& estimate just to be sure.

The dealer's answer (if you are interested).......
The ball joint is pressed into the upper control arm and has a tapered stud for attachment to the steering knuckle. The ball joint stud is attached and locked into the steering knuckle using a special nut. The ball joint is a sealed-for-life type and requires no maintenance. If the ball joint is defective it will require replacement of the entire upper control arm.

Your better off have it done bt a tech because you need a press to press them out and in. Also you will have a warranty witk the work. You want to be safe messing with your steering and suspension. I hope this helps.

its easier to get the whole control arm and the lower one has to be pressed in. it is not and easy job if you dont have the right tools checkout rockauto.com to look at the replacement parts and to get a price on them

to remove the axles, remove brake caliper and disc, remove hub assembly, the center hub/axle nut and...(there are i think 3-4 bolts on the back side of the spindle to remove the hub), you may have to force the hub off the spindle with a hammer or air hammer... once the hub is out the axle should slide out of the front differential allowing access to the ball joint nuts for removal...
