Question about 1984 Toyota Celica Supra

1 Answer

Heating/Cooling System I have an '84 supra, once I turn on the AC, I hear a rattling sound inside my dash and the vent blows cold air, intermittently with real hot air on the vent. I had my car in the garage for one year at one time and found that a rat was living there and stuff the vents with some indsulation materials. I have cleaned the vents already and have the blower changed. Thnk you.

Compressor pump is shot. there are pistons with seals inside the compressor if u don't regularlly use the ac the seal could go bad. rifrigerent r134 is the current standerd now for ac refrigerents u may have to do a retro fit it since that made tis maditory damit I can't remember but ne way. The refrigerent is compressed and pushed through a condenser as well as pipes and orfice tubes . when compressed the gas gets cold ,kind of like the oppisite of a dessel engine, they use compression to ignite the dessel rather then a spark plug

AC NOT WORKING PROPERLY

You've got some of the picture, but not all of it.
You need to know what the high and low side readings are, so yes you do need the gauge set. If the system is charged, and the low side is not dropping below 25psi, I would guess the low side pressure switch is faulty. But if the low side is dropping below 20psi when the compressor stops, the system may be low on freon. Which means you have a leak somewhere.
The hissing noise is freon flowing thru the system which could also indicate a low charge.

GMC Acadia AC not working properly

Not sure if I'm too late to answer this one, but you're describing a low refrigerant condition. The hissing noise and constant cycling of the compressor clutch are indicators of that. You should recover the system, record how much refrigerant was recovered, evacuate the system (with a vacuum pump), add A/C dye, and recharge the system to capacity. Common leak areas on these vehicles include the A/C condenser (located in front of the radiator), and the evaporator (located inside the dash, and requires complete removal of the interior dash to replace it). If you can't find a visible leak after running the recharged system with dye for several weeks and it starts to blow warm again, you will need to use an R-134a leak detector to "sniff" areas of the system for a refrigerant leak.

2001 dodge durango 4x2 with ac on, hot air blows out of driver side vents and cold air blows out of passenger side vents

There's a small motorized flap that's controlled by the heating and ac system that's gone bad. This part changes the air to flow from the ac or heating side depending on settings. I had a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same issue, the fix is relatively simple once you get to it, however you must completely remove the dash to get to the part. The part is about 15.00. When removing the Dash you MUST disable the air bags, if you do not you risk injury or death if they are accidentally deployed.

OK, sounds like the vacuum motor system is either disconnected behind the dash, or the vacuum control for the door inside the dash is broken, somehow.

need to take dash and climate controls off to see which it is.

Good luck.

Car rattles under right side of dash when accelerating

The rattling sound coming from the a/c system may be a sign of a failing blower, or there might be an object hitting the blades.

This can be inspected by an a/c technician, or if you are patient enough, you can check it yourself. Many automotive a/c blowers are located behind your vehicle's dashboard glove box.

Hope this helps.
