Bypass pulley for 1990 buick park avenue power steering. I am using the engine for a speacial aplication and do not need the power steering pump

  • bojo511 Aug 01, 2011

I would buy a shorter belt but the tension pulley would not work because the power steering pump is above the tension pulley and the power steering pump pulley is needed to use it.

Why not just remove the pump and get a shorter belt from a parts store?

  • bojo511 Aug 01, 2011

I would but the tension pulley would not work because the power steering pump is above the tension pulley and the power steering pump pulley is needed to use it.

I have a 1998 Buick Park Avenue Ultra, Supercharged.

Question edited for typos and add some spaces..
Question moved to model category.

You just fit a Bypass Pulley. This takes the place of the AC compressor, the belt and routing stay the same.

Where is the Power steering reservoir for a 99' Buick Park Ave.

You will need a flashlight; it will be very helpful. Standing on the passenger side of the vehicle, shine the flashlight down behind the engine approximately in the corner behind the pulleys but a little more closer to the firewall and look straight down. The power steering reservoir sits like one to two feet below where you probably expect to see it; they seem to have hidden it very well . I have a 98 and a 99 Park Ave and it took me forever to find it.

How to install a/c bypass pulley on 1988 buick park avenue

Most ac bypass pulleys simply bolt on where the ac compressor was. when you remove the compressor save the bolts. AC bypass pulleys are car specific. Each one is made to fit a specific engine. there is no such thing as a universal so make sure that you have the correct one.

Compressor is shot can I by pass it with shorter belt

An A/C bypass pulley is an alternative to expensive air conditioning repairs. Most late model vehicles use a single belt to drive the water pump, alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor. When an A/C compressor fails and locks up, it will break the belt and leave you stranded. Until recently, the only solution was to spend hundreds of dollars to replace the compressor and repair the A/C system. Dorman make these. You can also buy a used compressor at apull-a-parts place for less than that.

1994 buick park avenue . driving home and shut off

how did you jump the fuel pump relay, by bypassing the relay or by applying power to contact that closes the relay? If you bypassed the relay completely you need to b ench test the relay you can do this easily by using any 12v dc power source. If you tested the fuel pump relay by applying power to the relay and the pump run and developed pressure. I suspect a wiring or ground issue. Good luck

Removing water pump 98 buick park avenue

You need to poke a small extension with a 13mm socket through the holes in the power steering pulley, undo it, and slide it back.

95 buick park ave power steering pump bolts

I think any dealer would have these on hand; if my memory is working right, these did have to be a specific class and will need to be torqued carefully to avoid stripping the female threads.
