I have torn rubber on front struts at top where it connect into engine compartment

Replace them... the rubber boots protect the upper joint of the strut, corrosion of this joint will lead to excessive wear causing alignment issues. Depending on your mileage and the type of roads you drive on, it may well be time to replace the entire strut.

Front strut replcement 2006 buick lacross

Jack up and support the vehicle on the sub frame. Remove the wheels. Unbolt the strut to knuckle bolts. Unbolt the strut mount from the strut tower (3 13mm head bolts) Remove the strut assembly.

It your replacing with "quick struts" reinstall and have the alignment done.

If your just replacing the strut you will need to bring the old strut assemblies to a shop to have the springs compressed. Once the springs are compressed the strut nut can be removed from the strut and the strut can be replaced.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE STRUT NUT FROM THE STRUT WITHOUT COMPRESSING THE SPRINGS. YOU WILL HURT YOURSELF.

How do I replace rear strut and spring

Replace it as a unit. Strut, spring, strut mount all in one. It's called a quick strut. Raise car by the body not the wheel. Remove brake line (1 bolt) from strut lower. Remove 2 large bolts holding lower strut end. In the trunk 3 smaller bolts hold the strut mount (upper end) in place. DO NOT remove the single large nut at the top of the strut assembly. Wiggle the strut assembly out. Slide the new strut assembly in bolt it back in. Put wheel back on. Done.

Are struts on the front or back of this car?

The struts model (MacPherson Strut),are both in front and back of this car.
2000 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Rear, Driver Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly. $72
2000 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Rear, Passenger Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly $68
1996 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Front, Driver Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly $67
1996 - 2006 Hyundai Elantra Shock Absorber and Strut Assembly - Front, Passenger Side, KYB GR-2/EXCEL-G, Twin tube, Strut Assembly $63
Of course this is only the cartridge, you have to transfer the spring, and the top mount of the existing strut. You need a pair of coil spring compressor to do the job. The basic procedure to replace a strut is:
Remove the top nuts that secure the strut assembly to the frame mount inside the engine compartment. Do not remove the center nut.
Mark the lower strut mounting location on the hub for installation reference. The alignment will be close if the new strut is installed in the same position.
Remove the bolts that hold the strut assembly to the hub.
Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
Mark the top mount for installation reference. Using a side mounted spring compressor, compress the spring and remove the top nut and retaining washer. Pull strut assembly out from the bottom of spring.
Slide the new strut assembly up into the spring and reposition the top mount onto the spring in the same position that it was removed. Install the retaining washer and top nut.
Tighten the top nut to the manufacturer's specifications and carefully remove the spring compressor.
Place the strut assembly back into the vehicle.

How do i remove and replace the front right strut on a 1993 concorde? i have everything exposed but i am not sure hoe to remove and replace it. please help

Front struts can be relatively strait forward and easy or take the entire day depending on your luck and skill. If you want to do the job the easy way I would recommend purchasing the complete strut and spring assemble, service manual, torque wrench and use an impact wrench. If you do not have access to a compressor and impact wrench you may need a breaker bar. If you do not have one it will be a welcome addition to your tool box if you do your own work on your cars. If you did not purchase the complete strut and spring assembly you will need a spring compressor.
To get started open the hood and look directly above the strut where it attaches to the fender well. If you do not see the four nuts to remove the top of the strut you need to remove the protective dust cover to gain access to them. Turn the steering wheel to enable easier access to the nuts and bolts at the bottom of the strut. Jack up the front and place jack stands under the frame if available. Remove the front wheel and use blocks or a jack stand to support the wheel assembly so it will not drop when the strut is removed. Remove the four top nuts of the strut located under the hood. Remove the lower nuts from the strut by using the impact wrench or breaker bar. Once all bolts have been removed, make sure you can remove the strut assembly without tangling with the brake lines, or you may have to remove the brake calipers. Remove the blocks under the wheel assembly while and slowly lower it to free the strut being careful not to damage the brake lines. If you do not have the complete strut assembly you will need to compress the spring and remove the strut nuts with an impact wrench. Remove the old strut if you did not purchase the complete assembly and reassemble the strut unit the same way. When reassembling, be sure to torque all nuts and bolts to their proper specifications. Do not use impact tools when reassembling. Replace the strut and place the lower bolts and nuts in first. Raise the wheel assembly until the four threaded rods are visible on the other side of fender well and use blocks to support the wheel assembly. Tighten the nuts on the top of the strut and torque all the nuts. Remove the wheel assembly blocks and replace the wheel. Lower the jack after removing the jack stands. Torque the wheel lug nuts and replace the dust cover on the top of the strut. You should be good to test drive.

When braking in our 1993 pontiact grand am there

Check to see if the rear strut is worn out. These cars are known for the strut to get dirt and water inside (normally there's a protective boot but they deteriorate in time) and it literally grinds the strut to where it gets very loose and wobbly. Also, the top mount rusts away causing the strut to bang around. Hope this helps!

Help replacing the front struts on 89 VW Cab

You'll need to remove the upper strut mount nut. Unbolt the 2 bolts from strut to the wheel hub. Remove the strut unit from the car. You'll need a coil spring compressor to compress the spring to unscrew the strut bushing, remove the strut mount and remove the spring from the strut, install the spring to the new strut and reassemble. You'll be better off to get the whole strut, instead of the replacement cartridge, it's often hard to remove the old one from the old housing. Don't forget to replace the strut mount and strut bushing.
