Toyota RAV 4 1.8 A - engine doesn't start after battery exchange

Hi,
after I had left the interior light on in my Toyota RAV 4, the next morning the battery was empty. I exchanged it for a completely new one, but after the battery change only parts of the electronics are working: all lights are working, but oddly enough, the electronic door key, horn, radio and A/C won't work and the engine won't start. The engine turns at normal speed, but I can't start the car. Have treid all advice given in manual - nothing helps... :-(

Similar problem but all ok except engine doesn't turn. not even a click

I read on another forum that there is an ignition lock that may be triggered and needs to be reset by removing a white pin in the fuse box, waiting 30 seconds and replacing the pin.

I'm going to try this on our Rav4 (2005) and see if that changes anything.

May sound like a dumb question but you didnt by chance hook up the battery or jumpstart the car with polarity reversed by accident at some point during this process? i would check all the underhood main fuses and interior fuses as well, what is the condition of the battery post clamps? if they are badly corroded be sure to clean them very well and wash them with a baking soda and water solution im thinking one of the cables or smaller wires that hook up at the battery is broken or possibly some freak accident happend and the computers need to be flashed at a dealer. either way i wish you luck please rate -jeff

There are two possibilities from what I believe.

The main computer must be fully re-set.
The main computer or some other critical module may have been damaged.

You can buy or find a copy of the shop service manual and see how to do a full reset for the main computer, or have the car brought to the dealer to have it serviced.

After the computer is re-set and if the engine starts, it would be wise to take the car to the dealer and have a diagnostics done.

Letting a battery go down to zero on any of these types of automobiles is not a good idea. There can be problems afterwords.

I have a 2007 rav 4 the engine light will flash and the rav feels rough the engine or trans won't shift then it stops and works fine

The flashing check engine light means there is a serious problem with the performance of the engine. You need to get the computer scanned for trouble codes next.

Hi my toyota has probelms starting in the morning, my headlight beam strenght varies between weak and strong throughout the day, and this moning my hazard lights came on and would not go off and would not...

Sounds like the starter battery can't hold the charge from the alternator. A 1 hour highway drive should charge the battery enough - if it's the same the next morning it's up for replacement. Assuming there are no lights, radio or other devices on in the car during the night.

If the battery has been recently replaced - the alternator might not supply enough current anymore. In this case alternator brushes might need replacement or the voltage regulator has died. Usually the battery indicator lights up in this case. The battery indicator light can be checked by turning the ignition key one notch so all lights in the dash light up. If the battery indicator doesn't light the lightbulb might be dead.

Sounds like something is drawing power from the battery when you are not driving your car. Check interior lights, head lights, brake lights, aftermarket stereo or trailer wiring.

When i started my 2006 rav 4 this morning these lights came on and are still on, brake light,4wd light, ABS, VSC LIGHT?

If you had your foot on the brake while starting brake light could come on. If a catalytic convertor does not pass at startup (possibly ox sensor or whole convertor) then the computor turns 4wd vsc and check engine light on. note the six cylinder has three catalytic convertors and the four cylinder has two. Very expensive if convertor(s)
