That would be the least expensive route to start with. If it doesn't solve the problem, you may have to take it to a repair shop.

Need to fix the slipping on an automatic transmission

change the trany fluid and filter. get some lucas transmission treatment and put it in before you put your trany fluid in. after all fluids are in and everything is together start the vehicle and hold foot on brake and go through the gears it might slip a lil the first 5 min of driving or until fluid works through trany.

Why does my 2000 Trooper sometimes slip while it is in drive?

It would be because the transmission more likely. Make sure your trany fluid is at the correct level. Make sure it is not leaking. If it has been awhile since you changed the transmission filter and fluid, it probably needs it. The filter may be clogged if it has never been changed.

Check trans fluid with engine running - if low, top off. If fluid level is fine then try changing the transmission filter located inside the transmission pan. You may also have an issue with dirty trans fluid - if it is not pinkish but brown then have a transmission power flush done, then change filter.

Transmission is slipping. Check Trans light comes on while driving. What's causing this and how do I fix it...?

You may not be able to fix it, your ride is fifteen years old. But that is the worse case scenario. You can check the trany fluid level and color first. It should read full with the engine hot and the color should be like maraschino cherries. Has it been longer then two years since the last filter change, it could be due? Also sometimes a trani issue can be caused by a drive-ability problem. A restriction in the exhaust, a clogged fuel and/or air filter, poor compression, or a problem with the fuel system or injector/s. Does that help? Let me know.

Transmission shifts in and out and speedometer goes up and down in a 1998 Chevrolet pickup with an 4L60E transmission.

Do you mean that the trani is slipping? If so you may be low on trani fluid, may have a clogged trani filter or need a rebuild or new one.
If you mean something else then let me know.

When driving the transmission seems to get stuck

Check the trani fluid while running in park..
Trani fluid is messured in pints - not quarts.
Be careful not to over fill..
If the fluid is good - & still slipping - you need reani service..

Hope this helps !!

MY AT LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF

have your transmission filter change this is actaully a easy task if you know the basics all you have to do is remove the bottom pan from the trany the filter pops in and out just make sure you get the right trany fluid and put the right amount back in if you go to the parts place they can tell you exactly what kind of fluid to use also dont forget your gasket it will cost you about 30 to 60 dollars to fix it according to your location

Have the vehicle scanned for diagnostic trouble codes, and repair any codes.More than likely the trans needs a rebuild. If the fluid smelled burnt, then obviously clutches or bands are burnt inside the trans.Changing the fluid just got rid of the smell, whatever is burnt is still hurnt. It is best to stop driving the vehicle,as continuing to drive it will just cause more damage to whatever is damaged. Those transmissions are prone to pump problems too.
