Disconnect main inlet and vent hoses. Disconnect the three hoses that goes into the pump at the top. Disconnect wiring harness. Put jack under tank and remove the two straps holding tank in. Once on the ground, blow off all the dust that's around the top. This truck should either be a C style ring or a full ring with tabs. If it's a C style, pull ends together and remove ring. If it's a tab style, grab hammer and screwdriver. Hit each tab to turn the ring counter clockwise. Keep doing this untill it pops off. Remove pump and remeber how it comes out. Put new o ring on new pump and lube ring up with some kind of lubericant. A little oil, tranni fluid, even pertrelum jelly. Pump pump back in, when you push down on it to set it into place, make sure you push it in straight. Not doing this will damage oring and possible fuel leakeage when it's filled. While pressing pump down put old c ring or tab ring back on and get it started. Lock the ring into place and install. Doing everyting in reverse order of what you did to remove.

How do i change the oil pump on a 1997 chevy blazer

Park your car in a safe and level place and open the hood.
Relieve the fuel system pressure: On 1995-1997 2.2L engine models, remove the fuel-pump relay from the fuse block located in the engine compartment, then start the engine and let it stall. On other models, wrap a shop rag around the Schrader valve located on the inlet fuel line of the fuel rail, right before the first fuel injector--the valve is similar to an air valve on a bicycle tire. Depress the small stem inside the valve using a small standard screwdriver to free the fuel from the line Disconnect the black, negative battery cable
Raise the rear of the vehicle using a floor jack and safely support it on two jack stands.

  • Disconnect the filler hose form the tank by removing the hose clamp using a Phillips screwdriver or ratchet and socket. Remove the fuel tank shield using a ratchet and socket
  • Support the fuel tank with the floor jack and remove the tank-mounting straps using a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.
  • Lower the tank carefully, just enough to disconnect the two fuel hoses and vapor hose from the sending unit/pump assembly on top of the fuel tank
  • Press the lock tabs on the hoses connectors, and pull the hoses from the assembly fittings. Unplug the fuel-pump electrical connector and lower the tank to the floor.
  • Remove the lock ring from the sending unit/pump assembly using a drift punch and hammer. Carefully rotate the lock ring tabs counterclockwise with the drift punch and hammer until the ring is free from the assembly.
  • Lift the sending unit/pump assembly off the tank and out of the vehicle.
Install Fuel Pump
  • Make sure the pump filter is in a horizontal position and does not interfere with the movement of the sending unit float arm, then install the sending unit/pump assembly into the tank using a new O-ring between the assembly and the tank.
  • Secure the assembly by turning the locking ring clockwise with the drift punch and hammer.
  • Raise the fuel tank enough to connect the fuel and vapor hoses and plug the pump electrical connector.
  • Install the tank-mounting straps and tank shield, and connect the filler hose to the tank
  • Lower the vehicle and install the fuel-pump relay.
  • Connect the black, negative battery cableStart the engine and check for fuel leaks.
WARNING
When replacing the fuel pump in your Chevy Blazer, safety is your most important factor. Do not allow smoking near or around the car, and park away from appliances with open flames, such as water heaters and dryers.

How do I change the fuel pump in a 1998 S-10 chevy pickup?

The electric pump is attached to the fuel sending unit, located in the fuel tank.

Fig. 1: Exploded view of the fuel pump and related components used on TBI equipped models (click for zoom)

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Connect the negative battery cable.
Be sure to keep a Class B (dry chemical) fire extinguisher nearby.

CAUTION Due to the possibility of fire or explosion, never drain or store gasoline in an open container.
  1. Drain the fuel tank, then remove it from the vehicle. Refer to the procedure found later in this section for details.
  2. Using the GM fuel gauge sending unit retaining cam tool No. J-24187, J-36608 (or equivalent) or a brass drift and a hammer, remove the cam locking ring (fuel sending unit) by twisting counterclockwise. With the locking ring released, carefully lift the sending unit from the fuel tank.
  3. Remove the fuel pump from the fuel sending unit, by performing the following procedures:
    1. Pull the fuel pump up into the mounting tube, while pulling outward (away) from the bottom support.
When removing the fuel pump from the sending unit, be careful not to damage the rubber insulator and the strainer.
    1. When the pump assembly is clear of the bottom support, pull it out of the rubber connector.
To install:
  1. Inspect the fuel pump hose and bottom sound insulator for signs of deterioration, then replace, as necessary.
  2. Push the fuel pump onto the sending tube.
  3. Using a new sending unit-to-fuel tank O-ring, carefully lower the sending unit/fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank.
When installing the sending unit, be careful not to fold or twist the fuel strainer or it may restrict the fuel flow.
  1. Secure the sending unit by turning or driving the lockring clockwise and into position under the tabs.
  2. Install the fuel tank assembly to the vehicle.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable and check for proper pump operation.

Hope this helps (/remember to rate and comment this).

Do i have to drop the tank to replace feul pump on 1998 ford thunder bird

Yes, the pump is inside the tank. Good luck!
Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Siphon or pump as much fuel as possible out through the fuel filler pipe.

NOTE

All vehicles have reservoirs inside the fuel tank to maintain fuel near the fuel pickup during cornering and under low fuel operating conditions. These reservoirs could block siphon tubes or hoses from reaching the bottom of the fuel tank. Repeated attempts using different hose orientations can overcome this obstacle.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the exhaust pipe and exhaust shield, if equipped. Disconnect the fuel fill and vent hoses connecting the filler pipe to the tank. Disconnect one end of the vapor crossover hose at the rear over the driveshaft.
  3. If equipped with a metal retainer that fastens the filler pipe to the fuel tank, remove the screw attaching the retainer to the fuel tank flange.
  4. Disconnect the fuel lines and the electrical connector to the fuel tank sending unit. On some vehicles, these are inaccessible on top of the tank. In these cases they must be disconnected with the tank partially removed.
  5. Place a safety support under the fuel tank and remove the bolts from the fuel tank straps. Allow the straps to swing out of the way. Be careful not to deform the fuel tank.
  6. Partially remove the tank and disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connector from the sending unit, if required.
  7. Remove the tank from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Raise the fuel tank into position in the vehicle. Connect the fuel lines and sending unit electrical connector if it is necessary to connect them before the tank is in the final installed position.
  2. Lubricate the fuel filler pipe with water base tire mounting lubricant and install the tank onto the filler pipe, then bring the tank into final position. Be careful not to deform the tank.
  3. Bring the fuel tank straps around the tank and start the retaining nut or bolt. Align the tank with the straps. If equipped, make sure the fuel tank shields are installed with the straps and are positioned correctly on the tank. Align the tank with the driveshaft.
  4. Check the hoses and wiring mounted on the tank top to make sure they are correctly routed and will not be pinched between the tank and body. Make sure the fuel vent hose is positioned above the vent retainer and not contacting the driveshaft.
  5. Tighten the fuel tank strap retaining nuts or bolts to 22-30 ft. lbs. (29-41 Nm).
  6. If not already connected, connect the fuel hoses and lines which were disconnected. Make sure the fuel supply, fuel return, if present, and vapor vent connections are made correctly. If not already connected, connect the sending unit electrical connector.
  7. Install the exhaust pipe shield, if equipped, and exhaust pipe.
  8. Lower the vehicle. Replace the fuel that was drained from the tank. Check all connections for leaks.

How difficult is it to replace the fuel pump on a 1998 ford explorer

it is in the fuel tank. you have to disconnect the fuel inlet hose at the tank, 2 tank strap bolts while supporting the tank with a jack. then use the jack to lower it enough to reach up and remove the "quick disconnect" fuel lines from the sending unit/pump asm. (special tool required) Then drop it down, remove the retaining ring from the top of the tank and pull the entire sending unit/fuel pump asm. straight up and out...reverse procedure to install the new asm.
