same as above, any news on how to fix it ?

  • kachrapethi Sep 28, 2008

Yea, I concur with solutions 2,3. I managed to fix it the same way. The prob is that the instruction manual is only mentions it doing the otherway round, on how to take it out. It does not mention the reverse way..on how to complete the procedure when its half done. But the same logic basically applies. Use the T key.

In my particular roof was all down, only thing that dint happen was the click lock on the top of the roof. so i had to use the T to undo the lock (near where a moonroof could start) and then push the hood back and then turn the T to lock it. Then the audi understood that the procedure is complete, and it has worked well ever after. Thing to remember from next time,

Never shutoff the ignition in middle of the procedure.

I have the same thing today, I can get the top all the way up to just over the windshield but wont latch. I got out the T thing by the fuses. I am trying to push down the top at the windshield, but cannot seem to make the latches get close enough to go down into the upper windshield area, maybe I am not pushing hard enough. I do not see any error or malfunction messages on my control center, just the flashing top icon. Thanks if you can help

I'm not sure about that. I'm assuming that you've checked the fuse. There may be a circuit breaker for the top operation as well, and that may have blown (those are under the hood usually, or under the dash on the driver's side). Have you tried cycling the ignition a few times, or maybe a 30 minute disconnect on the battery? That usually puts the car's computers into relearn mode. I'm just throwing out ideas here since I've never dealt with this before, but they're worth trying.

The solutions proposed worked for me. Learning: Always open the hood with the engine running, never stop the engine while the hood is opening/closing. The hood is heavy but can be manoeuvred up and down manually with care, ditto the rear hood cover panel, the red/black T-tool is essential for locking/unlocking back (access hole by removing armrest btw rear seats) and front (access in the front secton of the hood) . Its located with the fusebox, open drivers door and in the side of the binnacle. Finally I disconnected th battery for 30 mins to reset computers, and it worked fine. Thanks again for the good advice!! :-)

This could be a simple overload. Look for a red handled T-key above the fuses . Use this key in a hole at the head of the roof and turn it to lock the roof closed. Similar hole between the rear seats to lock the rear cover closed.

Should reset and work ok , this is in the owners manual.

Had the same thing happen with mine. Just finish opening the top by hand (force it into the box) and close the cover by hand. Then turn the key on and put the top back up. It should recycle and ork fine.

...does the top start to open or it doens't even move? Does the hatch where the top goes into start to open? If so, stop the top after you see that the hatch has completely opened, then manually push that piece down. Be carefull not to get stuck and make sure nobody is operating the top while you're attempting this so you don't get your arm stuck there for any reason.

You could also try to access it from the truck and pull it down manually. I may just snap back into place and the problem will go away. On my car, one of the sides was stuck UP and the other was working. Once it snapped back into place it works every time.

98 Audi Quattro keys don't srping back after starting the engine

You have a bad Ignition Switch they are known to go out on the 90's audi's.

The part is pretty inexpensive but the labor maybe quite high.

When you start it make sure the key gets back to the proper position otherwise you will burn up your starter and cause another expensive problem.

Are you getting any error codes? Is the check engine light on and/or blinking? The vibrating and other symptoms you described are common from shorted ignition coils. It also sounds like there's a separate issue with power steering - check your fluids, pump, and hoses.
