1999 Dodge Stratus Gauges & auto-locks not working
I just bought a used 1999 Dodge Stratus a few days ago from a local dealership, and a few times I'd found that the gauges on the dashboard and the switch to lock/unlock the car wouldn't work. For the first few times, I was able to turn the car off and back on, and then it would work again. All day today, none of those things have worked since early this morning and I'm not sure what could be the problem. Is it a simple electrical problem? Where in the car do I go to fix it? Have some wires just come loose and need put back in the right places? Please help if you can, I'd really like to get this fixed. If I need to take it to a professional for this I'd like to do it as soon as possible.

This is an anti-theft feature.
Check with your local dealership, or call Dodge about the code.
If you bought the car new, the code maybe with the original paperwork.
Not sure if there is a charge to get the code.
A Chrysler dealership will have the most thorough manual made. Although worth it, they are quite expensive. You can probably find one at your local part store, such as Auto Zone. They are reasonably priced, but do contain limited information. You can also purchase a manual on-line and have it delivered to you.
This is a real common problem on caravan. But I haven't seen it on stratus. But it might be the same thing. When it won't start the gauge won't work at the same time? When it does this does slapping the side of the dash make the gauges work and then the car starts? Try this
I had the same issue with a 2002 stratus, the problem was the flasher relay. It's located inside the steering column, inside the multiswitch, and its fairly easy to replace. Two screws under the steering column to remove the top cover, then two hex screws to remove the multiswitch, then you can remove the relay which is green, mine was part# 04606478AD. You won't find this exact relay at the local auto parts store, but you can order from mopar parts online, or check the parts dept. at your local dealer. I called a local dealer, he didn't have it but was able to find one a few miles away, cost was $30.
