2003 Ford Focus LX with about 178,000 miles on it... Car stuttering began after a hot day of errands... Check engine light flashed for a bit then turned to a steady like... The next morning there was no check engine light... Left out around 11am... Took it to the shop; got a diagnostic and they told me that cylinder 3 was misfiring about 1pm... Changed all the spark plugs and wires... Car still stuttered a little... then while driving home the check engine light came on... What's my next step and what could this be?

when it happens and your check engine light goes on, drive to your nearest Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. They will check the engine light for free and tell you exactly what is wrong with it
A flashing light is BAD. Its damaging the cat converter. I would check or replace the spark plug wires ( if all OK, then) replace the coil pack. I would not replace anything unless they test bad. but these car are known for bad coil packs.
