I have checked all the wiring and they are all good none are cracked or crimped in any place no break in the wire any where. Is there anything i am not checking that will not let the battery charge

My 88' 240GL volvo has had the same problem, Ive swapped the alternator 3 times, A brand new battery, Ive completely cut off all old electrical connections to rule out corroded connections (including both terminals). Ive cleaned all grounds to the block and to the frame, the belt to the alternator is tight (but not too tight), when disconnecting the battery while the car is running, It continues to run. I invested in a 20$ voltometer that plugs into my cigarett lighter so I could monitor the voltage (just because ive been stranded too many times). the voltage has only gone up to 14.1 once, ever. Its standard running voltage would be around 13.7. But after driving a bit (with no radio, no windows power, no headlights, nothing plugged in [except for the voltage regulator]) the voltage will decrease down to about 12.3 then to 11.7 10.9 9.3 8.4 etc. Once it reaches 5.whatever, the car stalls after some fun backfiring. I charge it on a trickle charger for a bit, I check the water/acid in the battery. And it starts up like nothing happened. But it doesnt take long for the problem to happen again. Im lost. Ive traced wires to the starter, back to the battery, I cant seem to find one small red wire that runs from the back of the alternator, it disapears in the harness which runs into the dash. ive cleaned and protected every connection I can find. Help?

Rear windscreen washes when stalk pulled forward?

It should be that when you pull the stalk towards you the front wiper/headlight wiper operate, away from you for the rear wiper. It hasn't just rewired itself, and miswiring seems quite unlikely.

Has it been dismantled? Has any other electrical work been done near relays or fusebox?
Some history would be useful. I'm also wondering whether it could also be changed by programming the computer? If you don't have any history I would join a volvo forum and seek further advice before you start dismantling the stalk wiring.

I have a 2004 volvo v40. When i wash the windscreen the headlight wiper on the drivers side parkes in the upright position. Whats wrong.

Probably the wiper motor needs some maintenance. The grooves that hold the wiper arm may be worn, but usually it is the motor itself which needs new brushes or something.

Not expensive. Probably cheaper to buy a new one than try to repair the old one which may then work another few months.

I have to replace the ballast for the HID headlights on my 2004 XC70 volvo and it is under the headlight assembly. I just need assistance on how to remove the passenger side headlight assembly

You need to remove the front bumper. Five push clips along the hood line, remove the headlight wipers (if equipped), one T25 screw in the front of each fender well, then two 12mm bolts under the headlights (1 each side). Then there are 4 10mm bolts holding the headlight in.

If your car has the xenon headlights, it might be a faulty xenon ballast/regulator module. You car has daytime running lights so they are on at a low power setting all the time.

Driving along in my '88 Volvo 740 - all warning lights go on!

My first thoughts are with the battery cables, or the alternator. You probably had the heater, wiper and maybe the lights on? That's a big load on the electrical system. Have the battery and charging system checked out! It's common on this model for the alternator brushes to wear out and the good thing is that they can be replaced separately of the alternator.

Headlight wiper

They shouldn't - they only work when you do a wash/wipe.

On my 850 the headlight wipers come on the same time as my windshield wipers when I pull the lever to squirt washer fluid on my windshield.
The back wiper should be on an independent switch.

Behind Headlamp remove wiring clip and tape it off. At the same time tie off the water pipe. That'll do the job quickly. Otherwise removing the whole wiper system isn't a big job.
