Have you given the jeep a jump start....? push while in second gear? If it then starts it can only be your starter.....If it is not catching then there would be a prob with the flywheel as the teeth can wear...? you can give the 1st part a go...see if that works

Jeep won't start.

If it is not cranking then the starter motor/solenoid is either defective or it is not receiving the power from the battery. Did you check to see if the starter motor is receiving power when you turn ignition to start position?

I can't get my 1997 cadillac deville to start. It has been sitting for a couple of years with no activity

If it wont crank over the battery might be to weak to start the car but just have enoughf juice to run the electronics in the car.
Or the starter died.
1st charge the battery up and see if that works.
2nd if the fully charged battery dosent solve the problem then replace the starter.

If everything else works { lights, radio etc } then check the connection at your starter.

How to find out if loud knocking is piston or thrown rod, plus battery will not stay charged. This all happened after backfire and blown muffler

The only way to determine what it is would be to remove the sump from the motor, Either way you need another motor as the cost to repair will be greater than the cost to replace.

With clean battery cables and a fully charged battery the starter will sometimes not engage. When it does everything works fine and the engine runs smoothly.

the solonoid on the starter motor has burnt connections inside it and this not a repairable item anymore ,so just renew the startert motor

Will not start, but battery is good

Remove and clean the battery terminals and make sure the ground wire to the block is clean and secure.. Your starter draws more amperage than any other single item in the vehicle. When starter is engaged it will break the connection and fail to operate. Though the lights come on it does not tell you much about the battery capacity. Make sure it has been fully charged and load tested or any testing you do will be invalid. Also check the starter relay in the power distribution center and that there is 12v going to the small trigger wire on the starter when the key is turned to the start position. If not, the starter solenoid may have failed (best to replace the entire starter as often by the time the solenoid fails, the brushes in the starter motor are already pretty much worn out.

Car won't start, battery fine, just hear clicks

Even though the lights work, the battery may still be just short on power to turn the motor over thus the clicking. Try charging the battery or jumping, if you still get a clicking it would be the starter solenoid. Considering the year you may just want to replace the whole starter.

Jeep won't start with good battery

sounds like a fuse or starter relay.if your battery is fully charged.check for power at the starter when you turn the switch. you should have a starter control relay in your fuse box/relay center.
