I was driving my '93 Toyota Tercel, When I went to shift, the shifter got stuck in third gear. Now I am down to my last $100, and I fear my car is done for. The car has 240,000 miles on it.

Check the linkage.

It could be the cable binding up inside the sleeve or stuck detents inside the transmission. Try to find the cables under the hood, disconnect it from the transmission then try to move the shifter in the direction it was stuck before (side to side or up and down).

when shifting down try to shift into the same gear that you would be in as if you where shifting up some say its like matching road speed with the tranny hope this helped

Its a gear shift issue.

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

what is stuck?

the linkage or the cable from the shifter to the trans.?

block the tires so the car can not roll away...
open the hood and remove the cable from the shifter on the transmission.
see if you can manualy move the shifter on the trans.
if that moves... you may need to replace the cable (shift linkage)

why my 2006 corolla car gearbox is stuck in third gear and cannot move

Disconnect the linkage from the tranny. Manually move it on the tranny. Does it still do it. If so you have an issue with the tranny. If not its the shifter.

low on oil
check stick shift adjustments
shift stick bushes or a cable problem
check engine mounts
gearbox, fork or clutch worn
