My 98 jeep wrangler has a knocking coming from the motor. I have had some people tell me I need a motor and some say it something simple. And ideas, sure can't afford a new motor.

Very first thing you need to do is verify the actual oil pressure using a mechanical gauge. Lowest pressure at idle, with a warmed up engine would be 20psi. I'd rather see it at 30.
If the pressure is good, then you could have a valve lifter or rocker arm that has worn. Those cause tapping noise, not knocking. Knocking is usually caused by a worn rod or main engine bearing. When either wear, oil pressure gets lower (why I said to check that) Knocking can also be caused by an undersized piston or a cracked flywheel (common on automatics). Piston noise generally only happens cold and is much less common than it use to be in Jeep engines.
So, everyone that gave you info on your problem may be right...The only way to know for sure would be to have someone that is experienced and honest check it out for you. How expensive the repair is will entirely depend upon what the actual diagnosis is.

Ticking noises / Spun Bearing

If it is a light ticking noise it could be something as simple as tappits on rocker arms. valves pinging..........IF it is a ticking and not a KNOCKING noise then i would have another mechanic take a look at it...Sad thing that happens is some mechanics will give wrong suggestion for the simple fact of making your wallet lighter.... not saying this is the caes but something this costly needs more than one mechanics opinion. My suggestion would be have another mechanic look at it not telling what the first mechanics opinion was and then see how they compare..... hope this info helps and good luck....Please rate my post.

I have a 5 speed Jeep Wrangler. When decelerating the jeep has a knock. When accelerating there is still a slight knock but not nearly as loud and without the vibration. When i put it into neutral the jeep...

check the driveshaft end joints (check when not in tension) and check for excessive play in the differential yokes. Aside from up and down play make sure they do not turn excessively before wheels begin to turn. If you find no problems there then you may have a transfer case problem. End joints fail far more frequently than do transfer case internals or differentials (unless you run them low on lube) So it's a good idea to check them before worrying about large items.
