I have a 1998 Suzuki Swift 1.3 L , manual trans. Are the cv. driveshafts the same for US. spec. and Euro spec. ?

Have you checked to see if this is a wiring problem or maybe a relay problem?

Recently my lights would work on side lights and not anything else and this was down to dodgy wiring and needed a new relay unit.

If you can't find one over there check out faxonautoliterature. They carry original manufacturer service manuals and they list 3 different ones for your car. I have used them before and found their service to be excellent. They are in California and I live in Eastern Canada and can get manuals in about 7-8 days. Hope this helps.

sounds like the cluches are bad

head ofer to AAMCO they give free estaments and good quotes
if you want you can hit the salvage yard

also have a look at the kick down cable it might be sticking

send it straight back to the dealer, you shouldn't be suffering smoke under the bonnet or any potent smells in the cab unless it's something you ate.
