Replacing the rear struts on a 1991 Geo Metro hatch back

I need to replace the rear struts on my 1991 GEO Metro hatch back.
Is this a DIY job?
If so, does any one know of any online resources such as, a manual, a walk through, guide etc.

Thanks

ALLDATA.COM IS A GOOD SOURCE OF INFO FOR THE DIY, YOU WILL NEED A GOOD COIL SPRING COMPRESSOR, BE VERY CAREFUL, IF THE SPRING LETS LOOSE BECAUSE YOU USED THE SPRING COMPRESSOR INCORRECTLY IT CAN REALLY RUIN YOUR DAY AND SEND YOU TO THE HOSPITAL.

The two cylinders that hold the hatch up are shot. You can get new ones at any auto parts store.

Have 1991 geo metro convertible, it misses a lot when driving it seems like a fuel pump or maybe spark plugs?

Could be many things, but need to check compression first. Buy a compression tester and follow directions. Usually it will need rings AND valve job if it's near 150,000 miles. If not compression, change plugs, then wires, then cap and rotor, in that order. If not better, try Techron in your fuel for three tankfulls. WalMart has it for $9.

How do I replace my front and rear struts on my 91 geo prizm? Is it easy to do? Do I need more than just the struts or is there more pieces to it that need to be replaced with it?

about struts..if only replacing the strut you will need a spring compressor[ extreme caution] must be used .spring is under extreme pressure [never remove top center nut ] unless it is in the spring compressor. It isn't hard to replace the complete struts assembly you will also need to have a alignment done ..let us know by rating us if this helps.

Need to change rear wheel bearing on a 1991 Geo Metro. removed spindle nut but can not get drum off. put wheel back on and rocked back and forth while hitting spindle with a brass hammer .... no luck. any...

a 5 pound steel hammer is needed to whack this off. first I would retract the brake shoes first to give the drum more room inside so it will remove easier

I have a '97 Geo Metro Sedan with 127K miles on it's original four struts (no shocks); what are the best brand of new struts to get as far as longevity??

hey...i have geos...since 1991....maded for econony and high gas mileage mainly
with those miles...shop around and unless you are blessed with the money to go name brand...i would get the lowest cost i can find...geo's are always gonna be in my driveway cause i can work on them interchange parts and get around cheap....jst my thoughts...i have a 94 metro...will not sell...offered much than its worth but when gas starts going up she will be back on the road again.....!

Ware is the in line fuel filter on 1991 geo metro

The filter is located just forward of the rear axle. If you slide in just in front of the rear driver side wheel, it will be an inch above your nose

I'm replacing the steerin column in a Geo Metro 1996. All lights work. The back lights stay on.

Sounds like you missed engauging and adjusting the neutral safety/ backup light switch.

But I do not know what you mean by back lights? Back up lights, rear tail lights, interior lights in the rear....???
