I have a similar problem. It seems to cycle through a problem. Sometimes, when I turn the key, it just clicks. If i keep trying it'll eventually get to the point where it turns over, but laboriously. If I keep going, it'll get to a point where it starts right up. I've no idea what it might be.

Sometimes when I let the truck set for a couple days and then i try to start it, it just clicks. If I keep on trying to start it the truck will start. I replaced the battery. It ususally happens after setting but has happen after it has been driven.

I have seen this problem in the neon and what it turned out to be was the ignition switch. When you start it, dont turn the key as far as will go, only turn it as far as necessory to start the starter.

1998 dodge neon stalls after awhile wait a little bit then it will start and go for awhile then stalls again.

Not trying to highjack your post. I just bought a 98 neon sport, manual sohc 2.0. Im having the exact same issue i think, car will run for a while then tac drops to zero and it dies, 5-40 minutes later i can restart but i usuall only make it a few blocks and it dies again, wait again and it will restart. Did you solve this problem with your neon and if not can anyone give me more places continue to diagnose. It has new cam and crank sensors, fresh plugs, wires and coil, new battery. I got the car cheap, thinking of fuel savings but i dont want it to became a parts money pit.

My 1998 Dodge Neon manual transmission DOHC idles high. WHY??

Without actually seeing the car, I would first look at the linkage and springs from the accelerator to the fuel intake. Could be as minor as dust build up or loose cable. Start with that, should that not fix the problem, try adjusting the idle set screw. Turning it clockwise will increase idle, counter clockwise will decrease. Try to have idle around 500-600rpm.

I have a 1996 Dodge Neon Sport with a 2.0 DOHC. I need to replace

like the style ,parts more than the value of the car ,providing that the water ports havent rotted away then i take it the cam belt broke and the valves hit the pistons ,well the valves cost about 15/30 euros each depending on vehicle model here so it may pay you to buy a valve spring compressor and change them

I just resently replaced a brken timing belt on my 96 neon

Neons used a DOHC interference type engine. I hate to tell you this, but the valves are bent, and your entire valve train (possibly your cylinder head) needs to be repaired or replaced all together.

1998 dodge neon. Engine tries to start , but won't catch.

The timing belt may not be broken, but is it missing any teeth, sounds like it has jumped timing,i would remove the cover and inspect it real good.
